Re: Western SMT Bus Company

I used to get a "Red Bus" from Nitshill into the city during the sixties. I think it took off from Paisley to Nitshill through Thrnlibank, Orchard Park, Kilmarnock Road, Pollokshaws road and terminated on the Clyde st beside the Cutty Sark. Some of these buses had rows of seats on the upp...

Re: Buses Today

Someone told me if firstbus drivers are running early, its a disciplinary offence.Which is why they sit at some stops for a few minutes or more. Obvoiusly if they are late, they bomb right past you. filling out the form they have is pointless. You get a bog standard reply, if you get one at all. Ye...

Re: Buses Today

Okay. Can someone please explain to me why these stupid bus drivers put up a "sorry, not in service" sign. Standing at the bus stop yesterday, the 42 comes round at Carntyne Square, clearly signed as a 42. It approaches the bus stop, three of us standing there, and he changes to the sorry...

Re: Elections - May 6-2010

What will be more interesting for us will be how any new Westminster government relates to the Scottish parliment, especially if the Tories end up in power.

Re: Western SMT Bus Company

I'm looking for information on the above, well known, West of Scotland Bus Company, in relation to it's activites in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire, for a project. In particular I'm looking for: Pictures of it's former Newton Mearns depot (the site now occupied by the Mearns X shopping centre car pa...

Re: Buses Today

To be fair, several bus companies cover a greater or lesser part of my route. I could, for example get an Arriva bus and walk the last mile or so (and pay more for the privilege). I've been known to do just that on nice days. The rest are small-bus companies of the type where they clearly purchase ...

I am waiting for my brother to give me some stuff from that depot, (he was a driver out of there for a while) should get it soon and copy the material and upload it to my flickr account. Will let you know when it's done. Cheers! :D That must have been sometime ago as I'm sure the N/M depot closed i...

Re: Western SMT Bus Company

From memory there are some pics of Waterloo St Bus Station in this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Streets-Glasgow-Alan-Millar/dp/0711029946 I know I have a copy somewhere but can't readily find it. Might also be worth your while checking with the Mitchell Library - Glasgow Room / Special Archives for...

Re: Buses Today

As has been noted before, when you've got a car, you've got a car. You're paying for it anyway, and the marginal cost (effectively, the cost of the petrol) involved in making a short commuting journey will almost certainly be less than the cost of the fare for the equivalent public transport journe...

Google is your friend: http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=western+smt http://www.westernsmt.co.uk/ Google is indeed useful :D but not for the specific information I want, as I have already looked using it. Also researched the East Ren Council archives, for th...

Re: Western SMT Bus Company

7 went to Mearnskirk
4 went to Ayr and onto Stranraer when on that route. Still a 4 running but on the Stagecoach West of Scotland service (who bought Western Scottish as it was by then)
2 went to Eagalesham, I think.
