Anyone tell me what records are held in our local libraries, such as Voter's Rolls? And to what extent can they be accessed? For instance can I look up a street or name from 1950, sit and browse rolls (if available), or is there any restriction on their use?

Thanks for that Schiehallion, appreciated. I was hoping that I could acquire records here in Glasgow. My "to do" list is growing, Park Circus, The Mitchell, local LDS, now Edinburgh. Must get off ma jaxie, get moving.

Tried to get a copy of my mother's birth certificate (1914) from Martha St and Clydebank Registrar's Office 3 times, but owing to their search criteria, and the fact that 70-odd females of the same name were born in Scotland, they could not identify my mother's birth entry. I gave them my mother's n...
Hi Alex I'll read up on Des, interesting. Programme I use is PAF, the good ol' freebie. Been looking up my family for just over two years now, I've been printing off everything I can find on Wilsons and Kincades (High Church area) in Glasgow, stack is now about a foot high - I'll have to do somethin...

Des Garrity does the microfiches (available on GWSFHS), and the CD details are available on his web site - it's the index to the 1861 ...
Thanks everyone, that didn't take long. Set me on the right track, I now know where I can get CDs of 1861 census of High Church.
Brilliant

Hi Alex, thanks, a Registry District - this is the first information I have been given in months of searching and posting requests for information on other well known Glasgow boards, in fact it's the first answer I have had. I was beginning to think High Church was another Grahamstown. Your help wou...
Hi Ronnie,
on many old birth, death, and marriage certificates, place is given as High Church Glasgow - no street names given. I spent hours on Google and other places - there is no defined area that I can find. I'm hoping someone will have some idea.

Anyone got any idea where High Church area was in Glasgow? High Church appears on many genealogy websites, but there doesn't seem to be a mention of the boundaries anywhere.
