Re: Tenement Life

Although never brought in a tenement, I have lived in various tenements around the city in the last 25 years. I stayed in one in Wilton Street in the West End. It was enormous. Five of us shared it and we all had our own bedroom!! I then lived in one in Pollokshields. Its kitchen was huge and its li...

Re: Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Machines

Nimrod doesn’t have a Frisbee on top of it. That some sort of airborne early warning converted 707 or something. Always enjoyed Prestwick air displays. Think the last one was 1985. Always felt Prestwick with its very long runway, acres of empty land all around and planes taking off or landing to and...

Re: Dundee

What a great selection of photos. Dundeeonians are such a kind-hearted race. Went to Dundee United v Dundee game at Tannadice. Ball was rolling out for a corner. Wee ball boy ran on pitch and picked it up before going out of play. Referee gave him such a talking to. Thought poor wee guy was going to...

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

Alycidon, I also saw Queen in 1975. I also saw them as an up and coming band in Nov 1974 just after they had released the Queen 2 album if memory serves. This was my very first Apollo concert. Queen were fabulous live, even if Freddy couldn’t quite hit the high notes. I saw them a third time I think...

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

Schiehallion, funny how time does funny things to your memory. I do remember reading about Tommy Bolin’s death, I can’t believe it’s over 30 years ago!! I can remember the night Elvis died. But where were you when Tommy Bolin died?? And where were you when Phil Lynott died?? I had to google this one...

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

Shehallion, you're absolutely right. Deep Purple last played the Apollo in 1976. And indeed it was Tommy Bolin who played lead guitar. At the time Deep Purple were a shadow of their former selves and I can't say that I really enjoyed this concert. I'm sure I read that Tommy Bolin died a few years ba...

Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

30 Jan 09 My thoughts on the hundreds of concerts I’ve seen in Glasow. Best concert my mum would have enjoyed: Paul McCartney and Wings. Apollo 1975 Totally professional. Best punk performance: Radio Stars at Strathclyde uni circa 1979. Total 100mph stuff. Worst past-it punk performance: Ramones at ...
