Re: help needed in remembering pub name up sauchiehall street..

I used to drink in Speaker's Corner when I lived in Grant Street in 1976. There was another bar just around the corner on the way to St. George's X that I had the odd drink in, too. Can't remember its name, though. It may have been part of a hotel. As far as I know there isn't a bar at that location...

Re: Good pubs for a vacation in glasgow?

Tennent's bar on Byres Road is well worth a visit. Big, traditional pub with horseshoe bar and a bewildering selection of real ales. It's also very handy for Hillhead subway. Agree with the previous poster that the Lismore and Three Judges off the bottom of Byres Road (near Kelvin Hall subway) are o...

I'm sure I can remember a similar flood event in the same place that was due to torrential rain.

Anyone remember a70s cafe at Caledonian Mansions (Kelvinbri

I used to live in the human rabbit warren known as Caledonian Mansions in the late 70s. It's the big building next to the Kelvin Bridge on Gt Western Road. There was a nondescript wee cafe among the shops below where I often ate. I started a thread in another place about today being the 30th anniver...

Re: Partick Pubs

My favourite Partick pub was Reid's of Pertyck, at the junction of Dumbarton Road and Church Street. It changed hands around 1990, and since then it's been The West End Bar, Zoo, Solid Rock West and now, Gallus. It's owned by Bellhaven now, and had a big refurb 2 or 3 years ago, when they did away w...

'Time machine' pubs

One mainly for the 'auld yins' on here. Pubs that have hardly changed since you first drank in them as a nipper. I lived in the west end during my formative drinking years. The Doublet was my local when I lived in Gibson St over 30 years ago. It's got a glass door, now, and that's about the only cha...
