Re: Revamp for Odeon

Too many parts of the envelope were left open to the weather when the place shut. Entire rooms chanelling water from the roof through the building. Doors not shutting correctly. There was a flue of some sort near to the front of the art deco building that channelled rain water from there to the very...

Re: Revamp for Odeon

You should have seen it internally this time last year. The long corridor that runs down parallel with West Regent Street was covered in white mould - carpets, walls, ceiling. It was absolutely vile. The basement plant area was shin deep in water with dead pigeons floating around in the brown oily w...

Re: New Boiler

I did all my boiler and radiator stuff for the flat from http://www.mrcentralheating.co.uk They do good prices on all sorts of radiators and towel rails etc, and have a big range of boilers in stock for collection. Out in Hillington, and when you turn up there is always a steady stream of proper eng...

Re: Duke Street Prison

Robert, Those are terrific photos. I could be wrong but I think that first one is taken near the foot of the steep John Knox Street, just as you start up the hill. ....I was born in 1943 and I remember that the green SMT buses went up John Knox Street, and got to Buchanan Street bus station that wa...

Re: Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme is now available citywide

Cavity wall insulation. Good way to bridge that gap between the outside wall and the inside wall and let the rain piss in, cross the cavity and leave a nice mouldy black spore patch to help kill the inhabitants. But they will at least be cosy when their lungs pack in. Even better when it is part pa...

Re: Statues To Be Removed From George Square

Interesting piece Mori - it is obvious from that that the council know what they want already. On a personal bugbear note - for all the benefit of revenue that the small amount of car park spaces round the square provides, they really do substantially detract from the civic presence of the square. A...

Re: Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme is now available citywide

I tried some sealing tape between my door and frame in the last big winter of 2010 (I think) got the thinnest stuff and stuck it on good and proper, only the door wouldnt shut :-( Dont know where the bloody draft was coming if there wasnt a gap for that.....Ended up nailing a bath towel on the frame...

Re: Glasgow titbits and curiosities

What about Glasgow sending a donation to aid Chicago after a great fire there back in the day? Or the Statue of Liberty on top of the City Chambers?

You could do a poser asking what 2 world cities along with Glasgow end in 'OW'?

Re: Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme is now available citywide

Cheer up - the people above you provide better insulation than getting a bit of glass wool in the loft would do for you! Neighbours both sides too? Even better. If its really cold in the winter because of the glazing and you cant afford secondary panels or new windows, try rolling out some clingfilm...

Re: St Andrew House

Actually 2 points:

1. It looks better in real life than the render shown. (perhaps better is an exaggeration - less bad?)

2. The photograph by Vinegar Tom is fantastic - well done and thanks.

Re: St Andrew House

Ha, yeah - sorry about that. But come on. It really is poor is it not? I think the worst thing was when the old panels were being taken off, you could see that it was actually a very light frame behind it for such a tall building. It would have been great to see something with a more expressive faca...
