Out of interest, and it may be related to this topic, where exactly was the "Bell of the Brae", the site of the original Glasgow cross?

Now its just a road to the cross, but before the cross was there there must have been a road from the castle/cathedral towards the river. This I reckon was a different route. We'd need a map from before the establishment of the cross. I'm not totally convinced about curving round the hill (unless th...

Here is my (probably nonsense) theory. I'd have expected that the orignal road from the Cathedral/Castle complex would have headed almost directly towards the most convenient River crossing. That would have been the bridge at Stockwell St. High St north of George St seems to align along that directi...

High St bend

Something thats always puzzled me. Why does the High Street Not go straight down to the cross from the Cathedral? Just north of George St it does that mental bend and from the old maps it looks like it always has.

RB Tennent Works, Coatbridge or Gartcosh maybe

The immensity of the Meadowside Granary got me thinking on what is Scotlands biggest building. The RB Tennent (Sheffield Rollmakers) works in Coatbridge must be a contender. Is it still there? What about the Gartcosh British Steel complex, that building was there for a while after closure. Has it si...

old map of old glasgow

found this 1560 map on the glasgowstory webpage (apologies if this is the wrong place to post it): http://www.theglasgowstory.com/imageview.php?inum=TGSA00526 I never realised Glasgow Green had moved. I also see that Enoch went by the name of Tenus (not even Thenew), although up around what might be...

The TV show broadcast from there was something along the lines of the "Glasgow Garden Party". Daytime chatshow similar to pebble mill at one. I think they kept it going the following year, filming it from the Botanic Gardens instead. Richard Jobson used to present a musical spot where a band would p...
