Fascinating post dazza.

I can see a village of Timber Kit houses appearing sometime soon on the Ruchill Hospital site.

Re: The Inn On The Green

That is one ugly proposal of a building. I wonder if one of the ugliest buildings in Glasgow, the one which sits next to it has been taken as a reference point.

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

Fascinating Bomb map brian.

I don't think Bankhead School was completely destroyed, only a wing of it which was rebuilt in a fairly similar style to the remaining School.

Sixty Steps - Not a myth.

Let's put this another way if the 60 steps and wall are not by Alexander Thomson then who? As Crusty has so eloquently described, the fair hand of Alexander Thomson appears all over the structure, it is not just the detailing but the whole scale and mass of the composition and the confidence with wh...

Re: Glasgow's Gasworks

I would agree with you, there is no way I'd live in a house on an ex-gas works site, there are way too many nasties which could be lurking there. Interesting thread. I have worked on a couple of Glasgow sites redeveloping where Gas Works have once stood. I have been involved in two housing developm...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

alcon, many thanks for the insight into some of the events surrounding the terrible events following the dropping of the Luftmine in Nelson Street and the bombing of Morrison Street. I know that many of the members on here really appreciate it when those whose families were personally affected by th...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

bob(mc) many thanks for sharing your family recollections of the events surrounding the very sad events involving your mother. As a child of the 60's I have nothing but admiration for those who lived through and suffered from the terror of the air raids of the second world war. My mothers family, in...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

The First Air Raid over Glasgow From “This Time of Crisis” by Andrew Jeffrey : “The first raid on Glasgow took place in blustery, showery conditions at 1020 hours on the morning of 19 July 1940. One bomber appeared over the city from the north – west and dropped four 250kg bombs beside Dumbarton Ro...

Re: tommy sherridan

Will there be a clear cut verdict? Or will we after all these weeks see the Judge direct the Jury before they retire to reach a verdict? There only has to be a majority. The judge will not direct the jury one way or the other - he will give them directions in terms of the law and may highlight cert...

Re: tommy sherridan

Given the amount of witnesses that have rolled into court and said that Tommy Sheridan is lying, would lead most at the current point of the trial to believe that he probably did commit perjury. However, why did all these witnesses, several whom have given evidence at both trials not state at the fi...

Re: Tenement query

I noticed this tenement near the Mitchell Library the other day http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4112/4986411672_e78727e685.jpg What attracted my attention was the fact there only seems to be one downpipe from the roof guttering (next to the far right close - looks like it runs into the roof of the A...
