I flew out of Prestwick a LONG time ago on the most beautiful passenger aircraft ever built. Any guesses? British built, now has a military role. I would also say a Comet, but the RAF withdrew the last of their's about 5 years ago or something. I really like the engines in the wings like the Nimrod...

It can be quite fun to watch them do the touch and go's at Prestwick when they're training..... I spent a fair bit of time at Prestwick as a kid. One of my memories is watching the older style 747s (the ones with only 3 windaes in the hump) practising touch and goes, go arounds... an impressive sig...

This is probably a well known piece of Prestwick Trivia.

The only time Elvis Presley visited the UK was a brief stopover at Prestwick; he was a US serviceman. At the time Prestwick had USAF connections.

Bound for New York, she'd pick up passengers there, but couldn't totally fuel up as BH runway isn't long enough for the extra weight, so would stop off at a military ...

Sadly no more, (could still be back though with a lottery award last month), but the sound effect and ground shaking under the assault of 4 Olympus jet engines on reheat, producing almost 150,000 lb static thrust as a Vulcan bomber on display pulled up into a steep climb off the runway at Leuchars....
