Re: Sighthill - Fountainwell Place Demolition

Yes its a cracker. My auntie stayed on the 8th floor of the block now nearest the railway. I can,t remember the name of the block but it's nearer the railway than the one thats stripped out. Many family parties were held here, as most of my family were from the springburn area. I have many memories...

Re: Canon or Nikon?

Every newspaper photographer I have ever known, whether their gear was supplied by the company or bought by themselves, has used Nikon. Now, either the company gives great discounts to journalists, or their stuff is the best. Personally, I want to trade up to a DSLR soon (ish). And Nikon is what I ...

Re: Canon or Nikon?

out of those 2 I'd prefer Nikon. The colours produced by their lenses are nicer.

Although I prefer the colour of the Minolta lenses and the Zeiss lenses available for the Sony

Re: Digital Camera Equipment. THE Help and discussion thread.

I'd agree with John, without a previous investment in a system there is technically so little between the big 3 manufacturers that it comes down to how the cameras feel in your hand, how the menus are navigated, how deep in the menu you have to go to reach frequently used settings etc. I'm including...

Re: Digital Camera Equipment. THE Help and discussion thread.

looks like a good deal, but its a discontinued model and out of stock. This is in a different class to the D300, and more comparable to D700 but a generation or 2 older. L lenses are usually hard to beat. Canon charge extra for hoods, all of the other manufacturers include matched hoods with most of...

Re: Digital Camera Equipment. THE Help and discussion thread.

The great thing about the Pentax is that it can use loads of the old manual focus Pentax K-mount lenses

The Sony's can use old Minolta AF lenses or m42 mount lenses with the adapter.

The bargain DSLR of the moment has to be the Sony A200 at under £250 with the 18-70mm kit lens

Re: What Camera have you got?

Also if you hold the camera pointing it at the ground when switching lens there's less chance of anything entering the body

Re: Digital Camera Equipment. THE Help and discussion thread.

The Sigma lens PJ was talking about is very good, but does take huge filters. Another option is the Sigma 24-60mm f2.8 EX DG which is a much more compact lens and takes smaller filters and is quite a bit cheaper. The 10mm difference in focal length equates to about 2-3 steps so it is usually easily ...

Re: What Camera have you got?

If I wasn't so heavily invested in Minolta kit, I'd have probably gone for one of those Pentaxes. The ability to use any K mount lens is fab, there are loads available for next to nothing.

Pick up some high quality fast primes and your pretty much set.

Re: Olympus OM1 - Batteries?

You can also get the OM-1 converted to use the modern cells, which would involve opening up the camera and adding a couple of components to deliver the correct voltage / current to the metering circuit

Re: I'm Abseiling from the Clydebank Titan - October 25th

I did it!!! The event was cancelled on Saturday due to the weather, but I was able to go on Sunday. It was still pretty windy on Sunday and I was being blown around quite a bit on the way down. A huge thank you to those of you have sponsored me - and to those who haven't yet, my donations page will ...
