Probably the same reason that a lot of old building plans were thrown out. A lot of documents got soaked and instead of drying them out they threw them away. I know this because I tried to get the plans of my house and was told this by the chap at the mitchell.

Interesting fact i found from an old map is that the bowling green there used to be a wee loch.
