From an old thread about demolished cinemas Interesting question! Without any further information, this could be one of two structures. It could either be: 1) E.H Bostock's Scottish Zoo and Hippodrome, opened in May 1897 and featuring a circus arena and cinema, or 2) Arthur Hubner's Hippodrome of th...
I'm a bit confused :? Did you know about the fine before you got a letter from Arnold Clark today or was the fine sent directly to them because it was one of their cars? If the latter then surely it was their responsibility to ensure it was paid on time? If the latter then I certainly would not be p...
I'm definitely interested - been meaning to visit Paisley for years and never got round to it, as is so often the case for me Looks like it might be quite a long day but I'll try and manage along for part of the time.
Thought I'd seen a thread for this the other day but can't find it :? This is on Argyle St at the junction with Kelvinhaugh St (I think - next to Sandyford Church) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b358/Doireann/P1020205.jpg Established 1890 http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b358/Doireann/P1020203.j...

Definitely - went this afternoon and some super photos of Glasgow kids in 1968 having a great time playing out of doors prior to the age of mobile phones / ipods etc and against a backdrop of partly/wholly demolished bu...

I was in Shelter's shop on Gt Western Rd today (near to Byres Rd) and they had a stand with lots of videos - number of older films (i.e. ones that I recognised ...
There's a great photo of the one at Kelvinbridge in Gordon Urquhart's book "Along Gt Western Rd" - says it's an 1873 view. Apparently it had to be built at the Hillhead end of the bridge, due to the "intransigence of the Blythswood estate and other proprietors east of the river"
I would think any responsible driver would take care on the roads and most would be totally traumatised if they hit a pedestrian. . However, to imply that any time a pedestrian is knocked down by a vehicle that it is ALWAYS the driver's fault, is ludicrous -and thankfully the law does not take that ...
Yet another sad but avoidable incident this morning on Argyle Street/Queen Street junction. In the "trade" there is a reason why this is called suicide corner, people simply do not have the patience to stop and wait for the green man it only takes 30 seconds yet folks still rush across. H...
Many thanks for posting those Robert - brilliant collection of photos :D I was interested to see photos of the Garscube Colliery which I had never heard of until today. Bought a copy of James Cowan's book (Glasgow's Treasure Chest) and it included some old cut-outs from newspaper articles. There was...
