Hey, I quite like the St. Enoch Centre. So many people seem to hate it. Maybe it's just me. Pity about all the shops though. Get rid of them and the place would look even better.

Agree about the Buchanan Galleries though. Boring!!

What's happened to the Mitre Bar by the way? Felt like popping in there the other week and found it was all shut up. Used to visit it regularly a number of years ago. It was a nice wee pub. Most disappointed.

It was a very long time ago and I can't really remember. In fact I had completely forgotten about the large window above the loading bay. My feeling is that the whole building was part of the warehousing/despatch operation at the factory. On the other hand maybe it was part of the design department....

I worked for James Templeton for a short while anno 1968 and I remember that the modern building which eventually became Marcos Leisure Centre was at that time the factory's despatch department. Does anybody know why part of the canting basin was filled in a while ago, at the south end? Presumably the terrain created is also earmarked for development of some kind or whoever arranged this wouldn't have gone to so much trouble and expense.

Not exactly central so I'm not sure if it counts [although it's within the city boundary] but one of my favourite buildings is the Burrell Collection. I know next to nothing about architecture but I think it looks great what with all that glass combined with pink sandstone and it's a welcoming build...

There used to be a large laundry near Anniesland Cross called the Castlebank Laundry which operated a fleet of distinctive streamlined vans during the 1930's. Maybe they were built by this company.
