There is a shadow under some of the vehicles. It is not being cast which would suggest that the sun is fairly high in the sky. If, as was suggested that it is early in the day then I would have thought that it would have been June. Has anyone got access to the list of candidates that stood in the el...

I used Merkland St regularly in the 60s and early 70s having walked down from the Blue Trains at Partickhill. The entrance to Merkland St station was definitely north of the rail line but I never realised that the platforms were so far away from the entrance and on the south side of the rail line. T...

Building at Dalmuir

Luco is that building near the tunnels between Dalmuir and Clydebank? If it is I seem to recall reading that it housed a pump to keep the water level down in the tunnel that goes under the canal. The need for a pump could have been due to seepage from the canal and the fact that the tunnel is almost...

Continuing the Clyde cruising theme, here are two photos from the late 60s whilst on a day out to Brodick and compared to TC's piccies at Helensburgh, the weather was a wee bit better too :D http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/Misc/img482.jpg Wemyss Bay http://i51.photobucket.com/albu...

After my earlier recollections, I thought that I should do a wee bit of further research. It appears that I wasn't quite correct  so here is what I have found. The Loch Sloy power scheme was built immediately after WW2. Water was piped from Loch Sloy, lying to the west of Loch Lomond, through ...

The area east of Longtown includes the RAF Spadeadam site where the Blue Streak rocket was tested during the early 60s before the project was abandoned. I hope they didn't go on to do underground munitions testing. 8O There were a few storage sites around there for munitions as well until the early ...

Surely the current bridge structure is older than 1973 ? It looks exactly the same.

Did they just replace the bridge decking and not the girders?

One hydro scheme near to a railway that did flood buildings was at Loch Luichart on the Kyle line. The railway station (Lochluichart) and some two miles of track had to be relocated when the Conon Valley hydro scheme resulted in the loch becoming 25 ft deeper. Although I have not found details of a ...

Clyde Naval Visit 1947

Having posted the adverts at the start of the guide, here is part of the info on the ships and submarines that were to take part in the "visit". http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/CNR%201947/img130.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/CNR%201947/img131.jpg...
