Is there a Microsoft conspiracy? Following the arrival of MS's monthly dose of Windows patches, bugfixes and 'security updates, plus the Malicious Software Removal tool, my Firefox instal has begun to misbehave in an extremely irritating way. It won't open a new window reliably, sometimes it can tak...

I wouldn't bet my pension on it. The remake and film have been rumbling on and off for about 10 years now, usually claiming to be chasing some big star to front it, never to be heard of later. This was the last news I got in February: UPDATE 2/2/07: In this week’s Broadcast (2 Feb cover date) in a b...

One of the important things to remember when considering 'accounts' of Hess's arrival in Scotland, and subsequent movements, is that many of the writers have personal agendas, ranging from potential security-based 'mis-information' that would have been circulated at the time (to prevent sympathisers...

You could do Patrick Moore on a goose egg, and celebrate his survival of one, and success in reaching 50 years of the Sky at Night :)

Yes, I agree that natural loss and decay would probably leave something useful, but in this particular case, I was thinking of the report that he planting was deliberately eliminated with the purpose of rendering it of no value to enemy fliers. If the pattern was formed by the choice of tree variety...

I doubt the censors would have allowed the media to dream up a story that didn't accord with their wishes at the time. Personally, I have to question the voracity of a story that claims reporters on a farm had to go and buy a new pitchfork and distress it to make it look used. It's not the sort of i...

(BTW, if anyone knows how to post a link to a *specific* view in Google maps - e.g. the view of the Benarty Hill area just mentioned , please let me know). The modern views are worthless (if interesting), regardless of resolution, since the forest has been obliterated for decades: http://maps.live....

I'm not usually impressed by anything I find on YouTube and the like, finding something worthwhile is akin to finding a speck of gold if you've ever gone panning in Scotland. 10 seconds of overcompressed video and I'm usually off for something else, however... This managed to hold me for 9:52, and h...

OS mapping, expensive... very expensive.

I've created hundreds of web pages using Google's mapping API, and some Virtual Earth too on occasion, and all for free. I can plot points, use custom markers, plot lines between them, and use the geodata to calculate positions, lengths and areas, and all for free. And, there are others, but learnin...

I feel the birth of a new group of 'Soft-Targets'. Suspicious people wandering about with cameras that provide a reason to be challenged and add to the tally for the monthly figures, and can be accumulated without the hazards of challenging neds, hoodies, drunks or vandals.

Sort of amazing to see it actually make a return to showing movies again.

I've parked at the door numerous times over the years, and such a thought never crossed my mind. Just used to look at the place as and think 'Pity, at least it's still standing'.

I haven't had any problems in public, but then again, I usually try and be discreet, if only because I've also come up against some folk that are best described politely as 'nutters'. The opening post is the key element in this thread, regardless of the various 'beliefs' that appeared on some of the...
