Re: A Street Under Argyle Street

Don't be so cynical- look forward to seeing the pictures Gorevan  Not at all. Just sounded to me like another one of these... Hey guys, new to the forum and totally fascinated by this and all the other threads about hidden streets and tunnels under Glasgow. Anyway, I was talking to my mum'...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I know where you mean now although I've never been to it. There's a similar, modern day pic of it on Geograph... http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1613182" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ...but who knows where you'd get older (in it's heyday) pics? Theres nothing on RCAHMS about it. Do...

Re: Romani People in Glasgow/Scotland

'Travelling people' would seem to be the politically correct name being rammed down our collective throats nowadays by the usual lot who are trying to dictate the way we speak. My parents called them 'tinkers' and I still refer to them as tinkers. Its a historical Scottish name. Most of the Scottis...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

A couple of photos of East Forest farm just off the Slamannan Road, one of three farms I've been up there a few times over the winter as it's near where I stay. I'm sure someone lives rough up there. I really felt like I was being watched and also found some kind of trap-like thing. Walk up Fannysi...

8O FFS Icecube, I walked around that about three times only a fortnight ago.

That's a leg-breaker! Scary stuff!

Re: Evening Times News Sellers shouts

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

What is the CDC social club, because when I went up to level 4 there was a sign saying "CARD HOLDERS ONLY" or "MEMBERS WITH CARDS ONLY" or something on a brown sign in typical 60's font. Maybe something to do with that. I think CDC stood for Cumbernauld District Council although...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I enjoyed your video although like all these things it'll be more enjoyable looking back on it in twenty years time to see whats changed. Possibly the old centre will be gone by then - which will make your film even more interesting. Speaking of lifts, I went there on Saturday to take pictures of th...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

RCAHMS only have a mandate to record details of historically notable things, so I doubt if they'd be able to do much. Historic Scotland are more likely to be useful. Thanks LP! I'll drop Historic Scotland an email. I know it's just one of many hundreds of old limekilns that nobody really gives a to...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

This is the limekiln next to the Red Burn near the arches. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff135/Angus_Og/f89d1d92.jpg I visited the limekiln pictured in Angus's post (on page 19) and it's looking a bit worse for wear after the hard winter. The tree growing out the front of it has fallen over ta...

Re: Falkirk - The Blue Pool at Torwood

...the Canmore site has the following typical description although they also call them "retting ponds" . There are 28 records some of which are in the Falkirk area, with dates that are comparable with the appearance of the Blue Pool construction. "A lint vat or tank used for the prep...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Couple of old images from the old A80/A73 junction at the Spur in the village, first from a postcard that was put up for sale on ebay and the other was printed in the Cumbie News a few months ago. Seems a terrible waste to put the dual carriageway on top of this junction within spitting distance of...
