Re: Baxter House, Lowther Terrace

Stunning. A few scruffy bits but glad to see it hasn't fallen to fire or metal thieves.

Re: Revamp for Odeon

Nope, still as it was. At the same time as they got permission to demolish the auditorium for the office tower currently nearing completion, they also got permission to convert the foyer block into a hostel/hotel/bar. There was no interest in that, as it was shortly after the economy dived, and the ...

Re: Old Cars etc Spotted

I've not got a pic, but been quite surprised the last few weeks to spot a W-reg black hack plying its trade on the streets of Glasgow - W-reg as in 1980-81, that is! Cab looks commensurate with that age.

Wonder what the story behind it is, and how many miles it has under its belt?

Great pics Volunteer - especially the colour one, which perhaps made me giggle for the wrong reasons!

Re: Danger from old mines and mineshafts

There's also the ever-recurring dip in the southbound lane of the M74, just outside Polamadie train depot - been dug up and repaired numerous times but the mineshaft underneath just keeps sinking...

Re: Danger from old mines and mineshafts

The southern side of the bus terminus at Cambuslang (curiously named as buses haven't actually terminated there for years!), had subsidence issues until it was capped about 20 years ago. A little marker was placed to mark the completion of the work, not sure if it's still there - the site now, perha...

Re: One for the railway heads

Swings and roundabouts I reckon - Newton and Cambuslang gain from Larkhall trains stopping at both stations, while the stations from Rutherglen westwards get the extra Whifflet trains. Found this the other day - cab video from Central to Waverley. Reckon it's about 1990, going by the work at Newton....

Re: CAMBUSLANG STONE FACE

Not sure how I managed to get the street names mixed up but aye, that's the one. Shame the wee bench and flower bed weren't maintained, looked like a nice wee corner to chill on!

I also like Kyle Court. Glasgow volume of Buildings of Scotland says it's from 1965.

Re: CAMBUSLANG STONE FACE

There's a wee patch of grass on the NE corner of where Stewarton Drive and Buchanan Drive intersect. I'm 99.9% it was taken there. The grass is not longer tended, but there's still a path and the remains of a circular feature. Overgrown trees and hedges make it very difficult to compare, but some of...

Re: Bricks

The ones I posted you're free to use the pics of, don't possess the actual bricks though. Your best bet is places like demolition sites, cleared sites and former industrial sites. Be quick, though - of the ones I posted, around half the sites have been redeveloped now.

Re: One for the railway heads

What date you looking for? Cheap advance tickets only go on sale about 12 weeks in advance, search before that and you'll only find full price fares - although if it's a date when there are engineering works, the advance tickets might go on sale as little as a month in advance. Otherwise, look at th...

Re: Scottish Ambulance Service building - maitland street

There's a description of the interior in Historic Scotland's listing description, but can't say I've ever seen pics of it - would be a nice addition to Doors Open Day!
