Thanks for all the hard work you have put into going some way to solving this mystery. I have got in touch with RCAHMS and they are going to send the report. On another post "Glasgow's Oldest Bridge" I mentioned the survival of the bridge over the Brock burn at Nitshill Road dating from 19...

Glasgow's Oldest Bridge

In a previous thread about Waulkmill Glen I posed the question about the old history of the old stone house in the woods. Nothing concrete has emerged from the members. So here is another one with its roots in the same area. The road bridge which spans the Brock burn on Nitshill Road was widened aro...

At the end of Corselet road (dams road) there are two gate posts which indicate you are entering the property of the waterworks. A track runs to the left which led to Simpsons farm the remains of which are all but obliterated. Pass through the gates and there ia a stone wall on both sides of the roa...

I would be very interested in any information regarding that particular house. I lived 20years on Parkhouse road so spent my formative years wandering all over the area of darnley before it was developed and remember all the old quarries, mines etc. I worked in Darnley mill farm with my brother and ...

Waulkmill Glen

In Waulkmill glen which is situated adjacent to Corselet road in the Nitshill darnley area, stands the ruins of a substantial two storey stone house with an impressive bay windoy in dressed stone. I would quess that it dates from the 1700's. I remember seeing it on a map from the 1800's but it was n...

I would nominate the following Darnley Fire Station demolished around 1972? The railway Inn on Nitshill road facing the railway station which had a lovely walled garden. Darnley House of which I have never even seen a picture (hint to the experts) but can recall the remains of its tenents cottages.

There's a Hill in there Somewhere

Maybe this one has come up before but just out of boredom and to give all the Hidden Glasgow pedants something to mull over the coming days. Being a city built on hills has anyone ever collated the number of areas within the city boundries which contain "hill" within its title. Nitshill, Priesthill,...

Thanks for the info DC. I am sure all the property will now be privately owned after the right to buy legislation. I wandered around there as a kid in the sixties and it was always deserted and eerily quite as if only pensioners occupied the houses. Also when using the number 49 bus which went along...

Roughmussel I Joke You Not

There is a wee scheme called Roughmussel situated near the Hurlet north of Barrhead road and west of Crookston road. This must be one the most obscure areas within Glasgow's boundaries. Does anybody have any info on the history of this place. Who lives there and was it council housing.
