Re: This Girls got Talent.

It looks like Susan Boyle has done all right for herself.
She has the biggest CD pre order in the history of online retailer Amazon.

Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

Rachel de Thame was on a gardening programme for BBC though I never really watch these things. Some people thought she was like a slimmer version of Nigella Lawson. Not sure who the guy is though. I think last years party was pretty uneventful compared to some of the previous years. Secret Santa is ...

Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

No Charlie Dimmock figure wise and anyway I thought this one would be more your type. http://www.lgsltd.com/images/celeb1.jpg My purple top is for wearing to the office section lunch when we go out for a meal. They also have a party in the office itself and a quiz plus assorted games every year but ...

Re: BrigitDoon's Bomb Shelter

You can do without people like that in your life and hopefully now there is some distance between you that will be an end to his shenanigans.

Re: Dialect words and usage

oldphilosophy,

Have heard 'dry your eyes' many a time but will ask about the other one at work and maybe someone
will have heard it or confirm what it means.

Re: BrigitDoon's Bomb Shelter

Brigit,

Did you see these two stories in the news?

This thing looks like a scary monster.

Was it you that mentioned this prize that is given out each year in Somerset?

Re: Dialect words and usage

oldphilosophy,

I hadn't heard of 'slide on' either and it says on urban dictionary it comes from Coleraine and means to be quiet.

Have you relations over here or some connection with N.I.?

Re: Dialect words and usage

Never heard that one in relation to skipping school.

They called it 'mitching' when I was at school in Belfast.

Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

No doubt you may see some if you are going to any work dinners over the festive season. It is surprising how well some people scrub up at those sort of things. I bought myself a fancy purple top but will need to get some trews to wear with it. Some people I know go to great efforts and then there ar...

Re: Dialect words and usage

nuttytigger, You are right. I just saw the end of the show when the screen wife of Rab C. came on. hazy, Was asking my Dad about the word 'bunker' and I think he said it stems from the days when the coal was stored in the kitchen. The coalman brought the bags up to the front door and carried them in...

Re: Dialect words and usage

Does anyone use the word 'handsel' which I think means either a gift given to a baby to wish it good luck or can be used when an object is being used for the first time e.g. new plates or glasses.

Had never heard this until yesterday when I was watching tv.

Re: 3D tv programmes

The right eye is a blue colour and the left is a brownish sort of shade.

I think the programme about the Queen is repeated on 20th Nov. before Friday 13th Part III.
My OH has taped it so I might watch it when he is out on Saturday night.

Re: phone scam

TPS hasn't worked for me either. I get tortured with all manner of calls from charities, people wanting to sell you stuff and one mobile phone company who kept ringing and trying to tell you that you had won prizes and all sorts. I tried to be polite and said I wasn't interested which they just coul...

Re: 3D tv programmes

My OH got 3D specs from somewhere but I think Sainsburys had them in stock too.

Friday The 13th Part III in 3D made in 1982 and it is on Channel 4 on Friday 20th November.
Think it is on about 10 pm.
