Re: The Nostalgia Postcard - Glasgow Series

I remember being in the public toilet at Govan Cross many years ago(late 80's) and I was sure it had masonic decoration(eg eye, compass etc) yet the next time I was there in the 90's it was gone. Am I imagining things ?

Re: Red & white brick, industrial buildings

Hi, I believe the coloured brick style is called polychromatic and not polychrome. The white staining from bricks is salt leaching out. This is called efflorescence. :D

Re: Glasgow lookalike 50s - Short Movie

Hi, I own a 50's car and have friends who are into fifties fashion. Just off of Queens Drive near Queens Park is a small row of pensioner houses built in 1951. Bar the modern cars the place is a time warp, If you want any further info drop me a PM and I will give you my number for more info, Johnny

Re: Old Glasgow Tram Ticket Machines

The giraffe was pretty mangy, It probably was as old as the trams. My Father recently inherited a load of stuff which had belonged to his grandfather who worked on the trams between the mid 20's and mid 50's. Most of it consists of paperwork, regulation books, union stuff etc. If any of the transpor...

Re: Old Glasgow Tram Ticket Machines

I dont know if this is of any interest, The Transport Museum has in its collection(not on public display) a lot of machinery relating to Glasgow's tram system. I spent a bit of time there as a voluntary conservator and saw some wonderful things including the giraffe they had in storage !

At least he did not die before meeting Mark E. Smith or hearing Joy Division. Many lives have came and went without these delights.
