Re: Sixty Steps - another urban myth?

Some newspaper articles from 1869/ 1870 which suggest that the first Queen Margaret Bridge and the retaining wall where part of a single co-ordinated civil engineering project for Mr John Ewing Walker in preparation for laying out his new suburb North Kelvinside, initially known as “Kelvinside”. Th...

Re: Let Glasgow Flourish- Coat Of Arms

Re: Govan Graving Docks

i liked the masterplan proposal for the graving docks. very much. the housing (and underground car parking) proposed for two of the docks were to be designed as to be reversible, that is, the docks would remain completely intact. i would hope that masterplan informs whatever redevelopment might take...

Re: Mori Has Passed Away :(

What can I say. Im actually speechless. Initially at least, coz I aint leaving it there… Mo, I remember the first time I encountered you on the interwebs ,on skyscrapercity. I thought you were Japanese, for about a year. Funny how you get such a skewed perspective of folk using this as a platform. I...

Re: Does anyone know what these are?

the first pic looks to be a bracket for cables. doubt they are gpo or tram, could be for lighting, or an internal communication system. you can see three of the brackets, one in each arrowslit on the smaller two gables, and one poking out parallel with them from the crowstep on the larger gable. cou...

Re: Queen St developments??

half of Gasgow was built speculatively. the tenement you might live in certainly would have been. this is not unusual, even today.

Re: Honorary degrees

Whats the average age of a recipient of an honorary degree? Its merely an acknowledgement of a lifetimes contribution to something meaningful, and dare i say, worthwhile... and if it raises the profile of an institution, then its a couple a hunner quid well spent.

Re: Hotels...too many or not enough?

Too many hotels? can you imagine how many hotels and hostelries were in Glasgow say 100 years ago? A hotel, like a corner shop, or an ice cream van, won't open or operate somewhere if there isnt a business case for it. How is it possible to have too many hotels? I can't figure the logic here.
