Apollo, I'm hopeless with lat/long co-ords on Google Earth so here is it's location on an OS map to help. The thing with the holes is Troon Darley Golf Course I believe. It's definately one of the Troon municipal courses anyway. onyirtodd, luckly I didn't see either of those on my visit, seems to be...

Bogside Racecourse

Anyone ever visited here? It's on the outskirts of Irvine in Ayrshire, and to my understanding was the home of the Scottish Grand National until 1966 when it was mostly abandoned (anyone know for sure?). It was bought at some point by Nobel/ICI Ardeer, and they still own it I believe. I took a trip ...

Going back a page, someone mentioned that something "plane shaped" can be seen on Google Earth near the school. I've been searching high and low but can't find anything of the sort! Anyone guide me in the right direction?

That thing in the water looks familar, I think there's something similar in a reservoir or loch near Barrhead. (a quick map search tells me it might be the Balgray Reservoir) Might be something completely different as I only drove past it once about a year ago, but it was definately some kind of 'to...

That article seems to be for something different: a more experimental, limited trial. Here is the article about the more widespread upgrades.

Will be great if I can get something above 512k!

Only just noticed your post Spaniard, thanks very much! That's the "Forgotten Railways: Scotland" book isn't it? The page I was looking for!

Thanks again :)

I seem to recall seeing a total of three around the merchant city area, though where exactly I cannot recall. One of the three I've seen was badly vandalised and had a tree growing in it. There's a red police box in the Transport Museum I think. And I spotted a red phone box today in Drybridge, Ayr...

Interesting pics, so that's an entrance on the curve side? I take it then that this whole thing is the remains of a basement or cellar, unless the house was built low in the ground?

I had a look at Google Earth with the overlay map someone posted earlier in this thread, and it shows that the tower was just to the left of these foundations (which are just barely visible through the trees on the GE aerial photos). The overlay has the outline of another building just behind the to...

Great work, Max! How easy is it to get into the Ardeer site? Getting to this part of the site is extremely easy actually. The house is just off the main road into ICI, and it's outwith the perimeter fence of the factory so it's just a matter of going heading past the Ardeer Industrial Estate, throu...

Okay here's a few pictures from today, and as a reminder here is a link to a picture of the building from the Exhibition in Glasgow. http://www.evilpenguins.co.uk/africahouse1.jpg The South African Pavilion from a distance, with ICI visable in the background. http://www.evilpenguins.co.uk/africahous...

There is a photograph of the South African pavilion - "now at an ICA site in Ayrshire" - in Alastair Borthwick, "The Empire Exhibition: Fifty Years On" (Glasgow: BBC Scotland, 1988). This will show you what you are looking for. Thanks, but managed to find the house today, can't believe I missed it ...

Does anyone know the exact location of Africa House in Ardeer? I've been looking for it for ages but yet to see any sign of it.
