Re: Renting a flat

Personally, and having lived all over Glasgow, I prefer the Southside. I have always thought the West End and Partick very overrated and there rents the same. Cathcart, Shawlands and Battlefield are all good, Mount Florida a little less so. Bit further out I know but excellent train and bus links. I...

Re: Boom & Bust

I think you'll find a large proportion of social housing providers, depending on your background, couldn't care less. it's called inverse snobbery and that's before the PC brigade kicks in.

Re: The Barras and its future

People who think the Barras was any better years ago are looking through rose tinted specs.
I worked there in the 60's with my dad.
It was and always has been a crime ridden and insanitary dump.
Bulldoze the whole lot.

Re: CHCP news

Riotgrrl - I hope your daughter is on her way to being able to deal with life in a more positive way; it' often a long, long journey, but well worth the effort from all concerned (well, I think so, anyway!!) Thank you. I guess my point is that Social Work is not the solution to youth violence. And ...

Re: OLD CHURCH ON POLOKSHAWS ROAD..NOW FLATS NEAR ALLISON STREET

Originally Strathbungo Parish Church, built 1886-7. The architects were McKissack & Rowan. That's more or less all I know about it, although I remember it being derelict and used to wonder whether it would survive. Useless fact I know but the reason it was derlict was it caught fire after it st...

Re: Buses Today

Just remember that DB being state owned it means if you have a complaint you have to write to the German Transport Minister. Nationalisation by the backdoor? :o

Re: Buses Today

Anyone get on the Arriva 17 from Glasgow town via Paisley? Horrible timings for the buses, they turn up whenever they feel like it! Arriva, terrible company, used to sell motor cycles, wish they had stuck to that. One of the companies that took over part of the old Western SMT network......and dest...

Re: One for the railway heads

Those class 70's have more than a passing resemblence to class 58's, the last locomotives to be built by BREL. :(

Re: Views from your office window

I work from a number of offices, so at least get a change of view on a regular basis. This morning I could see the Campsies, with some snow on them still. This afternoon, McCormacks Music on Bath Street. Sometimes I get to have a view of the sewage works at Shieldhall.......smell leaves a lot to be ...
