Re: Mortuary on Sauchiehall St

stinkpad wrote:I was under the impression that what used to be the Cooler bar on Pitt street used to be a mortuary.

Agreed. W&L had its offices at ground level and a "cooler" in the basement. Hence the bar name.

Re: Coila Park: where Was It?

Mitchell Library > Glasgow Room > ask for the Ordnance Survey map for the area at the date you are interested in. Or have a look at the 1000s of old maps available on-line at the National Library of Scotland: http://www.nls.uk/maps/

Re: Larry Marshall Date of Birth

Apparently his real name was Henry Tomasso (says someone on glasgowguide). He married Kay Rose in July 1964 (says Scran). That might help.

Re: National Halls

Well done. Try the Mitchell for street pictures. Or the archives of the Good Templars.

Re: National Halls

Have a look in the Post Office Glasgow Directory for 1900 (in the Mitchell). Main Street could have been in Bridgeton, Rutherglen or another suburb.

Re: Researching local history (evening class) from 7 October

Thanks, Sunflower. The 10-week course will probably include visits (behind the scenes) to Glasgow City Archives and to Special Collections in Glasgow University Library. It includes a library ticket for GU Library for one year.

Re: Guess Where

@robertpool, thanks for the identification. I still don't know what lies behind the choice of subjects for the five armorial shields. Any guesses?

@Autolycus, sorry I meant the Four Winds Building. I don't know if Parr is there.
