Just teasing...

It is in remarkably good nick. The chuckies on the old trackbed are really smooth. Did you guys rake it or something?

What happens about noise? Surely the noise would carry for miles (big megaphone), and with the hospital right above it, surely someone would call the plod before long?

Here's what I did...

right, spotted a Code Red attack scroll past in my webserver logs. So, I thought... ping it! Yes, it's up. Ok... portscan it? Ahaa, it has NetBIOS ports open (Windows file sharing) ok... smbmount it (command line tool for attaching Windows shared drives to Linux machines). Drive C was shared, and wr...

Yorkhill Tunnel

Wandered down there tonight with bagpuss_thecat. Loads of bags of rubbish and empty cans, don't you people ever clean up after yourselves? Does anyone know where the end lines up with on the surface? Worth putting a smoke pellet in the vent thingy, see if you can see where the smoke comes out? Oh, a...

Well, to clear things up, the chat would have been in addition to the forums...but given the lack of archiving, it might dilute the volume of posts to the forums and hence the knowledge being contributed. This is a "discussion" (turns into a flaming great row) we've been having in the Scottish Linu...

Well...

I'm regularly on three or four IRC networks. I notice a serious increase in the noise level when I connect to EFnet. I like things nice and quiet.

Ewww, EFnet

Yeah, great idea. I *really* want to get my computer portscanned every 10 seconds by snotty teenagers, and then fend off continuous attempts to run IIS 'spl0itz (won't work, silly haxx0r, it's Apache).

Not a chat room.

Yuck. No, definitely not. For one thing, the chat room client on a web page usually kind of depends on some kind of Java applet. The site works well across different browsers (seems a bit odd in IE6, last time I looked) just as it is. An IRC channel would be fairly easy to set up. Let me know if you...

BBSes, then the Internet.

I first started using BBSes in about 1988, when one of my mates started running one when he went to uni. When I left school and went to uni (RGIT as was) a couple of years later (1990-1991 session), we didn't actually have Internet access, but a purloined shell account on an Aberdeen Uni machine (an...

Sterr heid rammy

I should coco! A couple of months ago, my (incredibly noisy) downstairs neighbour was being worse than usual - my bedroom was above his living room, he came in pished (common occurrence), and stuck on his bloody Johnny Cash CD at full chat. Now, said downstairs neighbour had just had his old door re...
