Re: Edinburgh

FP=Fire Plug! I’ve seen these countless times on old maps and had them down as Fire Points but was vaguely unsatisfied with that explanation as it just didn’t sound right. Well done LP or Lamp Post as you should be known as for your excellent old map detective work.

How did you guess? They threw ninja stars at me.

Re: Loch Katrine and Glasgow's Water Supply

Nice one! Looks like you have the two routes just about right, when I was looking at this myself I had a GPS with me when I visited the sites so I put together a KML file for each aqueduct, but there was a couple of sections I struggled with the exact route. If you drop me a PM with an email address...

Re: random question

>Click<

Anyone any idea what this building was in the centre of this block near Duke St station? The old map has it as part of a church hall but I think it post dates this and from street view it has an industrial look.

Got the clicky thing to work!

Re: Power Stations & Electricity Generation in Glasgow

I’ve been looking at some of the excellent pictures on the Britain from above site, and created a Scottish Power Station group if anyone is interested. http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/groups/power-stations-scottish I’ve collected as many Scottish stations as I can find and tagged them so they can...

Re: New bar on Gt Western Rd.

I was in Wintergills on Sat and everything looked normal (well alfresco drinking was being practiced which is debatable if you can count that as normal for Wintergills)

Re: Islay, a wee hebridean holiday

Great pictures Sharon, I was in Islay at the beginning of summer and would agree Scotland doesn’t come much better. My advice is to hire a cottage, miles better than a B&B or hotel, more flexibility and keeps the cost of eating out down, live lobsters at Portnahaven, cheapest I’ve ever had, only...

Re: Policing at football matches

Egg man, it’s the second round of the Ramsdens cup on a Tuesday night at the beginning of the season, what do you expect?

YB, spot on, for the same reason we might even see the police helicopter over Firhill more often.

Re: My Glasgow mobile phone app.

I bought one of these and it's pretty robust, just make sure you try it before you really need it, makes things a lot easier in an emergency.

Re: Policing at football matches

You were in the Falkirk end, what do you expect! It’s funny, people moan when they see a policeman with camera but don’t worry about the thousands of CCTV cameras that no one knows who is behind the controls of and what they do with the footage. Don’t get me wrong filming them filming you is the rig...

Re: David Holgate's photos around Glasgow

Cheers Robert, I dropped you a pm. Intrigued by that electric loco in Pinkston, not sure what it would have been used for and I can’t orientate the picture, my best guess would be easterly corner of the station where I think there were coal unloading apparatus, accessed from the St Rollox Coal and M...

Re: David Holgate's photos around Glasgow

Nice one Robert, pass on my thanks to David! Nice one of Pinkston in set 2, does David have any other pictures of Glasgow’s Power Stations? If he does I would love to see them.

Re: School buildings.

Not sure what your link is meant to demonstrate? Certainly no mention of schools segregated or not. Maybe Facebook needs to tighten up on what it allows to be posted, that maybe we need to encourage kids to mix more and to educate them to understand religious differences rather than reinforce them? ...

Re: School buildings.

Non-denominational schools help dilute the effects of parents rather than enforce them and you take a step closer to preventing the next generation being initiated in the first place. evidence please. Common sense dex, no evidence required, if you want to end sectarianism and religious intolerance ...
