Re: help needed in remembering pub name up sauchiehall street..

howdy folks, but before that we used to go to a pub across the way and down a bit and on the left on sauchiehall street...may have been the last pub on that side - and if I remember correctly there may have been a casino across from it ( I may be totally wrong on that part?) but I would like to kno...

Re: Larry Marshall Date of Birth

I think it was The One O'clock Gang , although that doesn't help much. Just glad that Larry Marshall's still around. That was an incredibly popular show in it's day and I can just remember it. Interested to read this - I had been led to believe that he had shuffled off, so to speak, a number of yea...

Re: One for the railway heads

One must advocate caution here. This reminds me of an incident many years ago when I happened to be travelling around the old Southern Region of BR. There is a recorded case of a chap who, while waiting for a train home after a few sherbets, found it necessary to answer the call of nature and decid...

Re: Coliseum Cinema Fire

Incidentally, the film "His First Command" was released in the US in late 1929, so that would put the first pic at 1930.

Re: Graffiti

Background to one I saw many years ago: there used to be a chap by the name of Arthur Blake who was employed as STV's Musical Director. One afternoon in the Opera Bar, which was presumably frequented by some STV staff, I happened across this gem in the Gents: "Q: What is the difference between ...

Re: Baillieston, Glasgow (CHINA PALACE BUFFET)

There used to be a Chinese in Tannochside called "Shatin", with dishes like "Shatin Special Soup". Apparently, the council made them take down the sign that said "Shatin Car Park Round back".....

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

Wasn't there an early 70's Neil Young gig where he was, shall we say, in a "tired and emotional state" and had to be bailed out by the support band (Eagles)?

Re: Glen Daly, Live at The Ashfield Club.

Glen recorded far more albums than is stated on there. lots more and it doesnt say his name was Francis McGovern McCann Bartholomew Dick. I'm not surprised he changed it, then..... For someone who was something of a local legend, it's surprising how little info there is out there on his life histor...

Re: One for the railway heads

I think someone's being funny here. The West Highland isn't electrified (the 15 code on the front is for a stopper to Helensburgh via Singer).

Re: Glens, Hutchison, Robertson and Stepek

That picture is from the mid-70s, prior to pedestrianisation of Brandon Street. Before Stepek, that store was occupied by local TV, radio and musical instrument retailer Mills, who moved there in the early 70s due to redevelopment of their old location (further along Brandon Street). IIRC, it was a ...

Re: Larkhall Line

There used to be an impressive viaduct out at Loudon Hill (on the line from Strathaven to Darvel) that I remember from my childhood but it was sadly demolished (in the 1980s I think). Story on that one was that BR sold it to a scrappie, but the structure was listed - he blew it up anyway, and when ...
