Re: JFK's First Public Address at Central Station

This is from the Mitchell Library. The chap on the left is Sir Patrick Dollan, lord provost of Glasgow, 1938 -41 and the young man on the right is Jack Kennedy. The photo was taken when the latter visited the survivors of the Athenia sinking on behalf of his father - old Joe Kennedy. http://i2.photo...

Re: Bing! (West Lothian)

I know the place you mean, cell, and it is odd. One of my favourite bike runs goes past the entrance, which looks amusingly like the way in to a Bond villain's lair. I couldn't have commented on this when posted five years ago but as I work out of BP Dalmeny now I can tell you that walikng up that ...

Re: Glasgow Zoo

But you rightly mention the (upmarket) housing that has been built on former zoo land (outwith but directly adjacent to the zoo) and that is the very same land that Glasgow city ...

Re: Toll Houses

Originally known as 'Toll Bars' and it was literally a bar laid across the turnpike road of which there were many across and around Glasgow. The houses associated with them were the toll keeper's house.

Re: Falkirk - The Blue Pool at Torwood

A real shame, as you say he did give us a wee mystery. Still definitely unsolved in my opinion despite the persuasive case put up by the mining faction. I was up there in January with the dog and while all the puddles on the paths were covered in ice the water in the 'blue pool' never had a sliver o...
