Re: Buses Today

if you get knocked down on the road(the place where big metal things are travelling at speed) its your own fault. if you get knocked down on the pavement(where people should be unless crossing "when safe to do so") its the bus drivers fault  I've never read the Highway Code (having ...

Re: Edelweiss Terrace

I guess names of German origin were not too popular in the 1940s. I got spooked by this remark as my Great-grandfather was of German origin and (obviously) with a German surname. I was wondering how you could possibly have known - it took me a while to twig about Edelweiss being a German name. :-) ...

Re: New Transport Museum at Riverside

Just back from my first visit and have to say despite some of the opinions in this thread I actually quite enjoyed it. Layout wise - didn't really know which way to go next - it was a very random wander around but it's a bang up to date museum and clearly very popular with the masses given how busy ...

Re: arseholes on wheels

Iain Macwhirter wrote an article called "Fuels Gold" in today's Sunday Herald about the worldwide rising cost of oil with reference to how it will affect motoring. (I would have posted the link but couldn't find it on-line) It's not the first article I've read recently in this vein and if ...

Re: arseholes on wheels

Always a contentious issue. Both motorists and cyclists are guilty of causing problems and being selfish road users and I've seen plenty of bad examples from both. This link is worth checking out to see what cyclists sometimes have to put up with: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12330181 This guy that ...

Re: wedding venue!

Henry Wood Hall is no longer available for weddings/public hire. It hasn't been for about 5 years or so. Sadly Park Circus won't be available for too much longer either. Got married there last Friday - on the way up in the car the driver told me this and the staff in the marriage suite confirmed th...

Re: Return the QE2 to the Clyde

Not sure if this is the right thread or not to post this but there is a topical link. Some students I worked with made this video in 1997 about the Upper Clyde Shipworkers work-in that took place in the 1970s led by Jimmy Reid. We've just put it up on YouTube. Hope you enjoy it :-) http://www.youtub...

Re: Silly Question regarding swimming pools

Dunblane Hydro is a Victorian-built establishment - not sure if the old pool was also Victorian-built but it always seemed very old. When the Hydro first opened as a spa, the spas themselves may have been in another area so the pool may not be Victorian. It's no longer used but it's possible that th...

Re: Horror of Kenya's 'witch' lynchings

Glad that I'm not the only one that noticed this - I posted the BBC link to my facebook page Friday afternoon last week - sadly it appears that people are far more interested in the passing of Michael Jackson
