Clyde Naval Visit 1947

I have found a souvenir book published for the Royal Navy in the Clyde in 1947. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/CNR%201947/img115.jpg It was not just the info on the ships taking part but the adverts that surrounded the main article featuring many companies that have now vanished ...

Can anyone identify these locations?

Whilst scanning some photos from my 1980s collection, I have come across two that I can't recall where in Glasgow they were taken. Does anyone recognise the locations? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/Glasgow%20Views/img245.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/Gla...

Here is a photo taken from the shore at Cardross in the early 70s looking towards the hills in the north across the Tail o' the bank. Even in the 70s there were ships anchored on the Tail o' the Bank waiting to be taken up river or into Greenock. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/NorthBriton/Mi...

Renfrew Airport

I have recently been scanning many of my old negatives and have come across this photo which I am fairly certain was taken at Renfrew back in the early 60s. I'm not sure if the BEA aircraft I was on was arriving or departing but there seems to be quite a crowd bottom right in front of the building :...

Somewhere between jct 15 & 16 on the M8 to the north of the motorway. Looks like it could have been the base for a small hand crane at the side of the canal. :?

I flew from Renfrew twice, once to the Isle of Man in 1961 on a Silver City Airways Douglas DC3 (Dakota) and in 1963 to Guernsey on a BEA Viscount. I never flew again until the mid 70s but by that time it was all 737s and similar and missed the chance to fly in a Vanguard. The chance of another Visc...

Socceroo, Sorry I cant help with any of the city sites you listed but here are two possibilities to the north west. I seem to recall that the Garelochhead site (N11) was up the hill on the right hand side of the A814 (the old road, not the present one) as you left the village heading for Arrochar. T...

It wasn't just the "creative accounting" when it came to working out the cost of operation and failure to look at the real revenue that a station generated, it was the lack of trains that ran at convenient times for people to use or the timetable which ensured that you waited hours for a connection ...

A lot of points to ponder on ST! With hindsight there were many things about the 1955 Modernisation Plan which could have been handled better. There were many diesel locos built which were to be blunt, complete disasters. The problem in 1955 was that there were lots of locomotive manufacturers but n...

No mention on that leaflet of the M8 and Parliamentary Road seems intact so does that narrow the window to pre 1971? I remember the destruction at Charing X when they were building the road, just can't remember the year!
