Flint Mill

This was an old flint mill circa 1850-1935, owned by Verreville Glassworks the flints were ground up and used in the glass and ceramics process. The mill lade can still be seen running from the weir (Think this was called 'Jacksons Dam') to what's now left of the foundations.

The APT was used to ferry HRH & all the hingers on to open the SECC don't remember the date. A workmate who worked in Hyndland Depot took some pics of it while it was shunted into Hyndland Loop beside the station. Wonder if they got it up on the tilt with lizzy on board?.

The Fort Bill sleeper departed from Glasgow Central High level, I think it left around 04.45 and went via the West curve at Rutherglen then through the Glasgow Central L/L. It used to trigger the fire alarms at most of the stations if the driver had the throttle wide open. I used to catch a lift to ...

Duke Street Prisson

I think there are some artifacts held in the Peoples Palace regarding Duke Street Prison, It's been a while since I was visited though, IIRC they had a mock up cell etc. Anyone one been there recently that can confirm this.?

Glasgow Central Low Level

That's the one James73, you can also make out the subteranean passage way that links platforms 3-4 5-6 7-8 9-10. That's the wrought Iron work surrounded staircases on the above platforms. No longer used for public access. Interesting to see you could enter at Hope Street and exit at the main circula...

Arches

I'd be intrested too Jim. Last time I was in there it was the British Rail Staff Car Park circa 1987. You could access the low level lineside from here by going down a cast iron spiral staircase which led you to a subteranean ante room with adjacent 4ft Dia waste pipe which flowed into the Clyde. Pr...

Tunnels

Hi James, I may have caused a little confusion regarding the old platform. The platform supports that are visible in the pic are the ones that are on the existing L/L platforms. The ones I have seen on the 'Old Platform' ln situ are on the far left of the picture and situated inside the eastbound tu...

Tunnels

Here's a pic of the afore mentioned reply re: the Disused Low Level Platforms. Thanks to the folks at Eastbank MRC. Hope this helps. The platform in question looks partialy demolished in the picture, but you'll get the idea. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/pgcc1993/HG%20stuff/GCLL.jpg

Hi, Heard a story about more platforms at central L/Level. True or False? 8O As James 73 says there is indeed a disused island platform on the North side of the East bound low level. But as for reopening it would be doubtfull as part of it is now the basement for the Westergate building situated at...
