Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I'm 99% sure that the buildings at the very north of the Palacerigg Railway (shown here) are the site of the buildings of Fannyside Moss Litter Works. I wonder why it doesn't actually say it on this 1922 map. The buildings just seem to be big sheds. Perhaps they were only temporary mobile structures...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Purplepantman really knows his stuff. Some of these photos are brilliant. If i need any more information, I know where to come now. Thanks ps...that Website is brilliant too, full of great aerial photos. Yep. I haven't had anything to add to Toomse and PPM's posts, but just to say that lack of comm...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Fantastic PPM! I wonder if the tramroads in the photos were the originals used to mine fireclay and later used by the peat cutters. This must be the railway MK mentions. Dunno. There's miles of tramways AND railway remains up there. A little further south of the west (biggest) loch is this. I know ...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

There's some great pictures on here of the peat cutting that also went on up there... http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/162449/details/fannyside+moss+litter+works/ Some of the hundreds of tracks up at Fannyside Muir must be connected with that activity too... http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx...

Re: Remains of Monkland Canal

Hmm! Interesting!

Also interesting they have a group for "best picture using a mobile phone".

Re: Remains of Monkland Canal

Purplepantman, you'll need to walk a few hundred yards further east [off the 1950 aerial pic] - through the cattle tunnel under the M73 and across the A752 to find the canal. Yes, I see what you mean! I wasn't really meaning "the canal" (with water) but meant "remains of what was the...

Nah mate! You're just not getting it. They were just pretending they didn't know who I was.

They still let you in for nothing though eh??! Nuff said!

Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Hi

Just realised I haven't introduced myself yet.

I'm from Cumbernauld and I like pies, sausage rolls and Greggs steakbakes!

They let me out for the day every second Saturday but I've got to be back in the ward by 7.30pm.

:D

Re: Remains of Monkland Canal

Been looking at Monkland Canal stuff recently and collected a few aerial pics. Noticed this thread and it seemed like a good place for them. Working west to east.... I won't insult anyone by saying where this is; http://www.majhost.com/gallery/purplepantman/Dougall/monksa.jpg Parade, past the gaswor...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

I never noticed that but saw a piece of rodding on top of the dam which might have been to do with drawing water. As for the entrances they will have been well filled in and covered over likely and the passage of time adds to that. Difficult to tell what size this is but it looks like a single rail...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Thanks Knightmare! Interesting! Eeeenough! Now one of you get in that bloody mine entrance and tell us what happens :) (Assuming it doesn't collapse and turn you into the first batch of HG paté.) Okay, if there is another mine/mine entrance/tunnel up there, then I can't find it, so I give up. :( Doe...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Has a Gregory's Girl then and now been done on here? I always thought it would be interesting to go around all the main locations and see how they've changed and try and take pics from the exact same angle as stills from the movie. In my search for decent movie stills for the above really exciting ...

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Cumbernauld Theatre does sit on a slope with the hall/stage at a lower level than the entrance. It's all above ground though, but I know what you mean. http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=t9sn8tgp1v30&style=b&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&a...
