On a note on there demolition, there are warning signs put up around the entrance stating that the buildings must not be vandalised due to the bats which live there. Does anyone know if they will just pull it all down anyways or do they have to get special permission or just do it when the bats ain...
I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm passing and see whats there. Well I drove past where the milestone is marked on the map, both directions, twice in fact and slowly both times and I COULD NOT see a milestone. The grass verges are quite overgrown at the moment but I'm 90% sure there's not one there.
Sorry [blushes] PPM, the thread has got big and I forgot about your post. I'll delete mine in a wee while, got to dash out for a wee bit. No worries. Thought I was loosing my marbles for a minute there though ::): I was actually going to walk it today but then the rain came on and a repeat of Timet...

The way he acted that day I went up, I'...

The monument was built in the 1860's so its intirely feasible that the stones and build...
Here's another couple of even older maps of the area for anyone interested; This map shows that in 1821 there was no road between the lochs (Fannyside Road as we know it) and that the main road through the area was to the south of the west loch. I say road but it was obviously only a track for a hor...
Yes, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. Stopped by it last week and the grass around it was well long! Cracking views too from near Brackenhirst Farm out over Glesga n' that - right out to Arran! Anyone thinking of going should also consider visiting the Drumbowie Anti Aircraft Battery about ...
