Re: Glasgow Zoo

I used to work in Calderbank House for around 6 months in 1993/4, covering maternity leave. It was a supported hostel for long term homeless, single men. It was formerly a maternity hospital and had large, ward-like rooms, with three residents apiece. There were some really dodgy looking fire escape...

Re: Ra Pawn

I had a Pawnbrokers shop in my close, on the first floor until about five years ago, when it was converted to a flat. It has moved around the corner into a shop on Dumbarton Rd, and now adds cheque cashing and pay day advances to the services it offers. It used to take a one hour lunch break, and lo...

Re: Cheap Drinks?

The Social on Royal Exchange Square has selected cheap cocktails on a monday, and they make them properly, not from mystery bottles of premixed liquid :D I know, I know, it's a G1 business, but it's cheap on mondays!

Re: VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN DISCOVERY

According to http://www.clanmacmillan.org/genealogy/Ministers the reverend was in his post from 1876-1916 and died in 1920. There's a photo of him available to buy from http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk I couldn't be bothered to enter my details to find out how much they wanted for a copy :D

Re: VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN DISCOVERY

There are pictures of Moffat Hydro on http://www.dalbeattie.com/moffat
http://www.visitmoffat.co.uk
It looks as though the pictures in front of the folding screen could have been taken in the Hydro drawing room. Or maybe both interiors were just similarly trendy. :)

Re: Hidden Cumbernauld.

Councillor Tom Johnston used to be my history teacher at Cumbernauld High School circa 1989. Glad to see he's still active in the old preservation game.

I could be persuaded, but I've heard a lot of bad things can happen when you meet strange people off the internet... :D

Re: Italy

I'm off to Rome on 13th June and I can't wait! These pictures make the wait all the more unbearable! I've been once before, in 1991 on a bus trip with higher Latin, but the onus for us was on alcohol rather than classical architecture. We all got into trouble for drinking, but as I told my mother th...

Re: NHS Dentists

I can recommend J Cadden Dental Practice. It's on Dumbarton Rd, up a close and next to a bus stop. It's at the corner with Stewartville St. Their number is 339 6325. I've been with them a few years.

Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Hi everyone, I've visited the forums many times before finally joining and have found them to be very interesting and often very funny. I've been in Partick around 10 years, Cumbernauld before that, and I work in the care/ voluntary sector.
