Re: tunnels

I found this site the other day, and having seen the images of the botanics station was very interested in visiting, as well as the tunnel entrance under Gibson Street. I went out today, and much to my dismay the fence appears to be in pretty good shape! I couldn't get in the Kirklee entrance, this...

(OK, so I tried searching, and couldn't find it  ) There was a picture of the well out of date sign just near the multi-storey car park in Bothwell St, which helpfully showed where Anderston Bus Station and the Stobcross Ferry were. Not bad, considering the bus station has been closed for the ...

Would it not be kind of useful if that line was still in operation, given the transoprt needs for that area :? I think you are being way too logical there! According to The Herald http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/41149.html , it seems as though the Glasgow Harbour developers have become so fixated w...

PGCC,
I'm impressed by your back catalogue of photographs!

Is that the entrance looking from Maryhill Rd northwards? Or the exit at the other end?

Tonight 08/04/05 on ITV: Tonight with Trevor McDonald - 8.00pm the `chip and pin' credit card system, which was designed to combat fraud Of course, it is a solution to the wrong problem. If someone looks over your shoulder while you key in your PIN, then picks your pocket (both very low-tech type o...

No need for ID cards as the new system of passport application/renewal is under way and will be largely self-financing due to the projected cost of £85 for a new passport which will include an interview at one of the 70 regional offices planned. There is also the new, separate "Supplementary Inform...

Nice pics! Takes me back to the time when a group of us started at Dumbarton Rd and walked through them all until we came out in the middle of Ruchill park (or Golf course - I forget which). We had to make occasional detours (like going around Maryhill shopping centre), but otherwise were able to ke...

(Cross checking with the map posted on one of the other threads:

http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php/45168/glasgow2.jpg

it would be the Kelvinside tunnel (to the north of the old station) that is blocked off at its south end

Hope that helps.

I could be wrong about the "before" and "after" appearing in one of his books (it may have been a magazine article), but the "before" picture is definitely in his "An illustrated history of Glasgow's railways", which may still be available. To quote from the picture caption: "Crow Road is the main r...

it does look a lot like crow rd station i havent been there for years does the line lead straight into a tunnel behind the camera? Haven't been there for years either, but I did check out the dead-end tunnel (I think the other side of the blockage is where the flats now are), back in my UUU days. W...

This may belong in the Garden Festival thread, but did anyone else sample the food on offer in the South Rotunda at the time? I had a colleague who was working in the ribs bar, but can't remember it's name at the mo. It's funny to see how the North side is all re-developed, while the South side is s...
