Re: One for the railway heads

If you are interested in some virtual Glasgow trainspotting try http://railcam.org.uk/ register (free) then choose your cam, the Glasgow area one is at Dalmuir, you can view in full screen. It is mainly EMUS with the occasional freight.

Re: One for the railway heads

Have never had it be late but it does seem to routinely run slow for a few sections, presumably where it's behind something slower - makes me wonder how much quicker it would be if a clearer path could be found for it. This could be down to the way performance is rated for the train operating compa...

Re: Southern General Redevlopment

thanks to the proximity to Shieldhall sewage treatment works the place always seems to stink. Not often these days- enforcement orders from SEPA over the last few years have resulted in this being uncommon. Commonly quoted misconception :D Well from the last couple of visits to the outpatients depa...

Re: Southern General Redevlopment

How big is the A&E going to be? Is it twice the present size or just a "bit" bigger? When the Western closes all those from the "West End" will have to decide The Royal or the Southern. Given a choice it'd be the Royal. Not even a medical emergency will get a Westender south...

Re: Help name this old West End Street

Digging back through old maps, there is a "Cliff Terrace" on the 1861 1:2500 OS map which seems to follow the path of that lane. Cliff Terrace disappears from the next edition of 1896 by which Eldon Street has been considerably realigned.

Hope this is of some help

Re: A wee joke

Sad news at the Nestlé factory today. A member of staff was seriously injured when a pallet of chocolate fell more than 50 feet and crushed him underneath.

He tried in vain to attract attention but every time he shouted "the milky bars are on me" everyone just cheered

Re: bad driving

What I'd like to know is where is everyone going in such a hurry? Why don't they just leave five minute earlier? There's a lot of angry people out there with somewhere really important to go. Since I live in the sticks though nowadays, there are plenty of reasons for getting p**ed off I can assure ...

Confirm Corkerhill, as the house in the background is one of the distinctive Corkerhill railway workers houses, now long demolished.

Re: port eglinton

I am sure this happened in 1972, and it was as a result of work being done in the tunnel to lay paved track to improve clearances in preparation for electrification, the work disturbed the structure of the tunnel and caused a collapse. The tunnel under the roads was reinstated but the bit under the ...

Re: One for the railway heads

Nice pic Helen Alycidon, I expect you of all people being a railway enthusiast of some experience and having the nomiker you do must be aware of the Deltics propensity to create vast smoke screens. Especially if after sitting a while. Being a 2 stroke a certain amount of oil will be ejected and as ...
