Re: Thatcher is dead.

Pingu interesting point Giffer absolutely no offense from your post, quite the opposite in fact. Thought Dimairt's post was well put. Not saying that no ill should be spoken of the dead, to speak critically of her is one thing, to take what seems to be glee in her death is quite another. From where ...

Re: Thatcher is dead.

Good grief even the council puts its tongue firmly in its cheek regarding celebrating a person's demise. Sorry to sound like a complete old fart but I just think celebrating a person's death is pretty bloody tasteless. The "look what she did to us/the country/people who died for her vanity etc:...

Just adding to the plaudits.

Great walk + good company = Grand Day out

Looks like I boobed by bailing out on the food

Re: Choose 3 buildings you'd like to introduce to a bulldoze

Boyd Orr building at Glasgow Uni.

There are a few others that I wouldn't mind taking a dozer to either, all build during the Brave New World of the 60s and concrete was the only material for the discerning architect

Re: Disused graveyards/ locations with alledged occult conne

Huggy They work fine for me I'm running Chrome. There may be issues if your accessing via an I Pad, Mac or phone, not sure. The maps can be accessed through National Library of Scotland. You pick the map you want to look at and you can then see the old map. Depending on how you choose to view there ...

Re: tunnels

Resurrecting this briefly. Passed by St Vincent Crescent last week and one of the bricks was out the wall of the bridge so I got a grand view of the work. The bridge is gone (or buried) and the ballast all built up to support the track, so it should stop flooding. The beams on the photo Gerry posted...

Re: Campus Development meets.John McIntyre building

Interesting Egg Man. As I live quite close to that area I'd be interested to know any more news. East of the Housing Accommodation Flats (if that's the building you are referring to) is the Heart Foundation and a Medical Building (I think) both belonging to GU and fairly recent. The only thing I can...

Re: Mearnskirk Hospital, Newton Mearns.

Well Josef even if it was all that time I still liked the pictures :D Just to add that I was very occasionally involved with water projects in my short and undistinguished career and that looks very like a service reservoir to me. Its unusual to see something like that at a hospital, some had towers...

Re: Geothermal Heating

Heard that on Radio 4 this morning. They also stated a pilot project is on going with a street in the East End already getting supplied with heat using this method.

Some more detective work for HGers to identify the street and the mines used? Personally I don't have a clue

Re: Garngad Walk Part 2 - 3rd February 2013

Hi Momument Sorry you're correct Salmon, not Sommerville, I'll need to start taking a notepad with me on the walks. I'm not coming up with a lot of hits for the church, or listings for Miller for that matter. The only thing so far is the listed buildings site http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/...

Re: Garngad Walk Part 2 - 3rd February 2013

Looks like I got my cafes mixed up the one about 100 yds east of where Whitehill St, comes down to near the parade and on the parade was the Bungalow Cafe and had been going a lot longer than I thought. Sadly no longer there. http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/virtualmitchell/index.php?a=district&s=...

Re: Statues To Be Removed From George Square

Joesef good point I'd forgotten about the Gilmour St revamp. I remember seeing it for the first time on the Paisley walk (which was great) and it had been such a long time since I'd been out that way before I never knew about it. Fully expecting the old Gilmour St I'd been used to my jaw dropped and...
