Re: Mystery football ground, Polmadie

Absolutely superb Photo Schiehallion, is this just a one off photo you have of football grounds in Glasgow? Or perhaps you have others?

Just for correctness, Shawfield's ground was spelt Rosebery Park.

Would HIGHLY recommend this book on Mr Leitch and all the other ones in the series.

A book called Played in Glasgow is on the horizon too, and if its as half as good as the other ones then it will be worth getting.

They were Clydebank Junior Football fans going to Lochburn Park, home of Maryhill Juniors, to see a Final between Pollok and Clydebank. Attendance was 1254, not bad for a Junior game.

It was originally built on the site of the 2nd Wellcroft Bowling Club.

I have a great old photo of this very bowling club in the 1870's, which i will try and get to scan on.

Might it be to do with the constant wailing of bagpipes in George Square, to do with the World Pipe Band Championships.

A flyover or something?

I have looked on the current day maps and the current Yarrow Recreation Bowling Club is located just off Helensburgh Drive, so it is more than likely that one.

The one you are talking about is a different one from the one im talking about. The one i know of is on the southside of the concourse, directly opposite Kings Park Station. I could tell you the exact house and number, but for privacy reasons i wont. It could probably be viewed from Kings Park by go...

The one im talking about cannot be seen from the station, as it is hidden by a house on Menock Road and bushes. It backs onto the actual Kings Park.
