ppl here do seem to get about the place with the camera's eh? Isn't that the point generally? yes of course, I'm sure that is the point, but still.. it's amusing just how quickly ppl here can produce evidence of things that others are speaking of... in this case animals (and they move about, making...

Re: Saw a pair of goosanders on the Kelvin, today.

Have you some pictures of your own for us to see? ........ it would need to be a good camera to take a decent photo of them in the middle of the Kelvin. How true  http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2735/4448735310_0dd09519a8.jpg (2 March 2010 from the bridge at the Botanic Gardens entrance (near ...

Re:

The Odeon Shettleston opened as the Broadway in 1930 designed by prolific Glasgow architect James McKissack for the Singleton chain; it was sold and re-named Odeon in 1936, and closed in 1967. In the pics below it was a bingo hall, but has since been demolished... http://www.survivingcinemas.org.uk...

Not a book, but an excellent film - Ratcatcher. "The squalid council estates of Glasgow, mid-’70s. While a dustmen’s strike grinds on, life at home for 12-year-old James Gillespie (Eadie) is intolerable. His father’s a drunken slob, his mother under pressure, and James himself is hiding a terr...

Re: Battle Burn

My father painted those gates at least twice while he was pals with the Mgr's there. The gardens were impressive to say the least! I gotta run along to work, but I really could blab on about this area for days on end........ ::):

Re: Battle Burn

As teens, we'd play on a small motorcycle in the park..... flying across the cricket pitch & up the hill fast as possible to see who'd catch the best 'air' at the top of the hill.... totally wrecked a 50cc Yamaha over a couple of weeks. Anyone remember the hotel at the other end of mt. vernon av...

Re: Battle Burn

There was a burn running thru barrachnie park, and if you walk there you'll notice from the carpark walking towards the swings or football pitches you have to cross over it. There used to be a bridge between the oval & the football pitches. I know the little footbridge you mean, though it was o...

Re: Battle Burn

This thread is giving me goosebumps! I grew up right next to Barrachnie park.. my mother still lives there today. Her driveway is 10ft or so next to the driveway to the park. I played in the park daily. There was a burn running thru barrachnie park, and if you walk there you'll notice from the carpa...

Re: When the hurricane hit Glasgow 1968

Does anyone remember this? I was 14 and remember watching the Red Road Flats swinging about like crazy. I also remember tenement buildings having tarpaulins on their roofs for years afterwards, the maisonettes at Fountainwell road lost their roofs as did Kirkie baths. Substantial loss of life and d...

Re: Thread Dates

They are, as a general rule. The ones with the older dates at the top are 'stickies', i.e. permanently stuck to the top of the list, usually because of noteworthiness. No idea why the Wi-Fi one is up the top of this particular section, though. well thx Josef.... that makes sense to my numpty head, ...
