Re: Contaminated Land around Glasgow and Lanarkshire

Yeah it is pretty rank. The smell in the energy center any time I've had to go in is pretty bad although it wasn't really noticeable in the first phase during construction. Still think the remnants of the smell from the stinky ocean is far worse though. I drive through it several times a day. Does a...

Re: Contaminated Land around Glasgow and Lanarkshire

Just read this thread and did a wee google search on the stinky ocean and found this little gem

http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/index ... opic=12403

Can only imagine what the smell must've been like in the 50's and 60's as its still honkin today.

Re: Monkland Canal prior to motorway

You're welcome. Found it by fluke myself a while ago but have spent a lot of time browsing the historic images. Being able to highlight the road network sure helps when comparing with recent images.

As you can see the Monklands canal shows up nicely :). Along with a lot of old railways and roads etc.

Re: Monkland Canal prior to motorway

Google earth is your friend in this case. If you zoom into Port Dundas and the m8 out toward Baillieston and select the 1945 imagery you can see all of the canal that is now the M8. If you tick the roads box in the sidebar layers then the route of the m8 is superimposed on top of the canal. It looks...

Re: Hospitals & Asylums

Stracathro hospital is open and expanding. A new wing has just been built and should be in the last build stage if not already completed.

Re: Underground World: Underneath the Red Road Flats

Was told yesterday that the flats have to be collapsed into each other. cant see an implosion due to the framework of the flats. Was also told that the owner of the brig is demanding compensation before the demolition but they want to pay afterwards. Don't know if this is true or if its just local h...

Re: The days of CB radio, who was...

Hey vintagebuff You remember a lot of the people I knew then, a couple of them friends. It's strange to think how many people were on the CB compared to what you hear now if you turn one on. I repaired CBs in the Irvine - Kilwinning - Saltcoats - Ardrosan and Cumnock area for a few years. I made a ...

Re: Western SMT Bus Company

here's a link to a short video with several western buses at various locations of the one way system in Kilmarnock. This is part 4, the other 3 parts should be easily traceable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRkIfxfdkzo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; All 4 are well worth watching fo...

Re: Mechanic Advice Please...

i would be very surprised if you needed one abs ring let alone two. The rings are magnetic ridges that a magnetic pick up senses. usually the gap between the pickup and the ring becomes too great resulting in the abs thinking the wheel has locked up and therefor activating. The gap can be opened up ...

Re: The Former Inverurie Locomotive Works

Was in the loco works last week to do a plant safety test on one of our machines on site. The roof of the main shed is currently being rebuilt and an additional floor has been added for office space. Didn't have a camera on me at the time but I should be back on that site a few more times in the com...
