Re: The Barras and its future

The washing machine broke down a couple of weeks ago, so my son and I went to the shop at the Barras for a part. It turned out the shop didn't open till 10, (we had got there at 9), so we wandered about the area, which is looking really awful. We passed the 'friendly street traders', who offered 'Ci...

Re: St Peters No.1

I had went there a few weeks ago, but some of our group were a bit 'spooked' so we ended up only seeing a small part of it, today a friend and I went back and went through the whole site. Photies here : https://picasaweb.google.com/munroskh/StPeters?authkey=Gv1sRgCNXW78TKlOCPcA" onclick="window.open...

I see your King's Park and raise you Kelvinside

It's like the story I heard (allegedly true) of a guy who lived with his mum.

He lived in North Kelvinside and she lived in Maryhill!

Re: Tesco planning massive new store in Milngavie

They're back - no surprise  http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/editor-s-picks/town-faces-new-battle-over-supermarket-plans-1.1095922 It's lovely to see that Tesco 'want' to 'consult' with the 'local community'. What they don't mention is that they refused to do this with the last application,...

Re: Tesco planning massive new store in Milngavie

Well, despite the vastly expensive QC and 'experts' wheeled out by Tesco, their Appeal was rejected, so no monster store in Milngavie (yet). :D Thanks to the fantastic supporters who contributed time, money and tea!, and attended the Inquiry, despite the best efforts of East Dunbartonshire Council to...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

She apparently also said that they had been called out to Clydebank, where a tenement had been bombed, all that was left standing was the gable end. They were about to knock the gable down when crying was heard, it was a baby who had been put in the cupboard beside the fireplace and had somehow esca...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

A friends mother was a nurse, based at the Southern General during WW2. She said that the air raid 'all clear' wasn't sounded until hours after the bombers had gone because there was a huge clean up operation after every raid to try and get rid of sights that would demoralise the civilians, things l...

Re: Tesco planning massive new store in Milngavie

The Public Enquiry about this is on, some interesting points coming out. East Dunbartonshire Council managed to be 'unable' to book Milngavie Town Hall for this important enquiry, despite this there has been a good turnout of the public. If anyone was considering arranging a drinks night in a brewer...

Re: Dig money / keep money

I think that £20 a week for all she gets from you is an insult, clearly she sees herself as one of the gentry, waited upon hand and foot and never having worked. I admire you patience, she has taken advantage of it for too long. Speaking from experience, she needs the proverbial rocket, otherwise sh...

Re: A wee joke

SCOTTISH COMPASSION A man was sitting on a blanket at the beach. He had no arms and no legs. Three women, from England , Wales , and Scotland , were walking past and felt sorry for the poor man. The English woman said 'Have you ever had a hug?' The man said 'No,' so she gave him a hug and walked on....

Re: how accurate are these forecasts

I have a pilot friend, and it's the Norwegian Weather Service that they tend to use, it is run by meteorologists, and not by the guy who was head of the World Wildlife Fund like the Met Office.

Anyway, lots of talk on the weather forums that the weather is going to be pretty rough on Thursday!

Re: Student Riots

A very interesting debate. I tend to agree with the bar for University admission being lowered too far, and the proliferation of 'mickey mouse' degrees, which no employer places any value on, in fact, some actually have a negative value as ones like 'Meeja Studies' have become a joke. In many ways U...
