Re: Ravenscraig

Wouldn't be surprised if the site becomes even larger now that Dalzell is closing, as the two sites are joined together: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-g ... t-34575423

Just what Motherwell needs - another contaminated ex-industrial area to clean up!

Re: Bridge at Shawfield

Demolition of the deck about to start: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-34443758 "The council said it was investigating funding options to replace the bridge deck." Cynical old me suspects that the piers will remain in situ with bugger all on top for many a year before th...

Re: Ravenscraig

Gazing into my crystal ball, I predict housing occupying much of the space where the shops would have originally been built, one or two token small shops, and precious little else being done, the rest of the site being left to go to seed (like it hasn't already). I also foresee the road widening bei...

Re: Glasgow 1980, The Photographs of Raymond Depardon.

Maybe I'm being oversensitive about it all, but I feel a bit of discomfort with the idea of taking photos of people who are as far down as those in the first pic, especially as the guy in the middle seems to be trying his best to stay out of shot. The whole set is embued with squalor and if all you ...

Re: Buried chemical waste hazard

You knew when they had opened the furnace doors at night time. The whole sky would light up red above the cooling towers. Quite spectacular. I still remember that, as I suspect do all residents of the Motherwell (and especially Craigneuk) areas from the days of the 'Craig. We were In North Motherwe...

Re: Buried chemical waste hazard

I used to go for walks in the parts of the old Ravenscraig site which were (at the time) unbuilt on. We're talking maybe 5 or 6 years ago here. I'd noticed already that standing water beside the road tended to be rather off colour (it still is, to this day!), but on one of my walks, a day or two aft...

Re: Amusement Arcades / Glasgow 80's and 90's - Photos, Info

I gave many of the arcades in Glasgow a call last year when I was looking to acquire an old arcade machine to convert into a cabinet for MAME (I still am, if anyone knows where I can get one). A few said they still had old machines but invariably the manager was never there, and despite promises of ...

Re: Colours : Green

First time at the new Transport Museum. Took 38,093 photos. Nice day out, but liked the old museum better. Same here. Their decision not to recreate the cinema from the old transport museum was a mistake of epic proportions IMO, and the "sky" above the old street looks all wrong, it's jus...

Re: glasgow subway smell

Although not on the subway, I was convinced for years that Dalmarnock station smelled of smokey bacon crisps.

I still am.

Re: Glasgow By Night

Brave Marko going out to Glasgow at night all the way from m/well. I like the Barretts one. The wee cone at the front ,nice touch did you put their as part of the shot. Hehe, no - I actually didn't notice it until I'd uploaded the pic! One of my mates was with me, acting as bodyguard (not to mentio...
