Re: Hitler's deputy crashed in Scotland

Completely off topic, but I used to be a shop steward and in the middle of one dispute another manager was brought in from another department to try and mediate. Manager: "I've been parachuted in here to try and find a compromise solution" My colleague: "Who do you think you are, Rudo...

1971 Scottish Milk Race

My Dad passed away recently, and among the things we have been left were a load of colour slides. One batch was from the 1971 Scottish Milk Race, which started in George Square. I won't add them all as they are quite repetitive, but here are a few showing the north side of the square as it looked th...

Re: Glasgow Central Tours {Hidden Victorian Platform}

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I did the tour in May 2016 and all these plans were being bandied around by Paul then, and don't really seem to be much further on. I know he gets very little support from Network Rail though so I am sure he is fighting an uphill battle to get funding. He a...

Re: Past Present Vol 2

I was given the first picture a few weeks back. Petershill played at Hawthorn Park between 1919 and 1935. The ground was situated on the south side of Hawthorn Street, bordered by Memel Street and Blackthorn Street, with houses on the site now. The tenement you can see is on the corner of Hawthorn S...

Re: One for the railway heads

Went on the Central station tour today. If you get the chance, buy a ticket. Dave. Did the tour today, excellent way to pass an hour or so. won't post my pics as they aren't any different from Dave's. Paul that runs the tours was both informative and enthusiastic, and gave us some info on things th...

Re: Tower Block Demolitions - Rolling Updates!

Brilliant pictures, I work in the council vehicle workshops and we used to be in the Polmadie complex which is in one of the pics. We move to Jessie St 18 months or so back and it was obvious that the flats were becoming less and less occupied going by the number of lights that were on. One of the P...

Re: Mystery department store

I'm almost certain that Galls had a store in Springburn when I was a nipper. My Mum and Gran were both avid knitters and I'm fairly sure I was dragged in there regularly when they were stocking up with wool.

Re: Model Railways and other Wee Worlds

Inspired by the above model I am trying to build my own model of a Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire Railway Island Platform Station building, so I am looking for help with any photographs of the station buildings at Yoker Ferry, Scotstoun East or West as these were narrower than Kilbowie and would fi...

Re: One for the railway heads

I went to take a picture of the class 55 after it got light this morning, only to find that very class 47 parked right in front of it. Is this all down to Abellio's motive power unit shortage?

Re: One for the railway heads

I work next to Polmadie depot and the class 47 pictured below has been sat there all week, not something you usually see in there. Came in tonight and there is also a class 90 and a class 55 (55003 named Meld to be precise) sitting there too. Makes a change from the usual Virgin stock!

I'm sure some will have seen this BBC programme about trams before, but it's available on iPlayer at the moment. A few glimpses of Glasgow trams in it.

Re: Danger from old mines and mineshafts

There's also the ever-recurring dip in the southbound lane of the M74, just outside Polamadie train depot - been dug up and repaired numerous times but the mineshaft underneath just keeps sinking... I work in Polmadie and you can put your house on the southbound being closed at night every second o...
