Re: Germiston/Garngad tunnels, tardis, tower, quarry

Hello my first post here. I grew up in Germiston/Garngad over 25 years ago, now in England. I noticed obvious changes in recent visits. More curious about what was there rather than what is 'hidden' I heard the gasworks are to be no more? Is this worthy of investigation/taking photographic records?...

It does seem to have taken on a life of its own, but I don't think it's crossed the line or even got close to it. Although I was surprised at the umbridge taken at the 'jobs for the bhoys' remark as it was simply a paraphrasing of 'jobs for the boys' which has more 'establishment' connotations and ...

It used to be that what school you went to had a bearing on the outcome of any job application (It's aledgedly not a coincidence that the corporation colours were green and gold) Jobs for the boys, always has been, always will be. They can have all the fancy dan recruitment policies they want. If y...

Garngad Steamie. I have vague memories of going here on a Saturday Morning, with my mother. Afraid I don't have any wonderful anecdotes - my memories of this place are of being typically restless, as most six year olds would have been, and wanting to be somewhere else. Of course I now wish I had tak...

germistonguy I mean it's Glesga as opposed to Glasgow. Now Hidden Glasgow, that's Glasgow. Then there are other websites that have Glesga boards and Glasgow boards. But you're right, they are all about Glesga... or Glasgow... ::): Thank goodness for that. I wasn't sure if you meant Glasgow o...

If you want authentic Glasgow folk histories on this institution the Glasgow Guide Board does it well http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1204&st=0&#entry26559 That board is all a bit 'Glesga' for many, but if you want the folk stuff on the steamie it's very good Aren't Gl...

Not bombs as such, but this might trigger someone elses thoughts. I have vague memories of my granny telling me how she watched a German aircraft, which had been shot at, going down. She was watching from Germiston and looking over towards Petershill road/Springburn area. Can't remember for sure if ...

I remember them being called "Safety Dos" and were a long list of road safety type instructions: DO look both ways before crossing the road DO avoid crossing between parked cars etc etc. Being the young wags that we were we would add "n't" to every bullet point. Hours of amusement. Yep. Done that! ...
