Lived in Halfway at that time. Aged 15 (1960). Got the bus to the West End bar and walked down the road to the kennels to train the dogs. Each person was allocated about 10 dogs to look after. In the early 1960s worked for Shawfield Greyhounds who had their kennels on the other side of the railway.

Mu cousin (still living) was born there 1949 when the army vacated the site and squatters moved in. Birth cert says "Hut 36, Blantyreferme Camp".

A word to the wise about the original location of the face. (and my memory from the late 1940s). It was carved on a natural flat-surface stone outcrop someway down the grassy slope, behind this recently built ugly path memorial.
