Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey

There was a display at the People's Palace a few years ago about Alex Harvey. I was really looking forward to it, but when I got there I was disappointed. All there was on display was a few glass cases with ticket stubs and programmes of SAHB gigs, with a tape of "Next" on a loop. Alex Har...

Re: Drumchapel

I lived at the top of Achamore Road until I was four, and we moved to England. These pictures remind me so much of my early childhood. I always remembered the water tower and the bluebell woods, but where we lived was fading quite markedly in my memory. Great thread, these photos are important.

Re: Gay Glasgow

Glad to see the thread hasn't died. The most recent posts about the 60's and 70's are very interesting, but can anyone give us details about the gay or gay friendly venues even further back?

Re: Gay Glasgow

I happened to be in the city centre when Pride was on. I usually avoid it, but went for a look. I realised again why I avoid it! It was utterly naff, chaotic, and the entertainment was very poor. Why don't the organisers take a look at how other Pride celebrations are staged and organised? For a big...

Re: Gay Glasgow

Glad to see that people have such good memories! But where are all the women? I'd be interested to know where gay women socialised years ago. Most of my lesbian friends don't go out in Glasgow because it's so dire nowadays.

Re: Worst town in Scotland?

Irvine stands alone in its bleak awfulness. I grew up there, and it was utterly depressing. Thank god none of my family live there any more, I don't have to go back.

Re: Gay Glasgow

Moving swiftly on....

I'd really like to hear from older lesbian and gay HG members or their friends. Where did gay people meet in the 50's and 60's, or even earlier?

Re: WHERE DID YOU GROW UP

Born in Drumchapel, moved to Rochdale in Lancashire when I was four. Moved to Irvine aged 11, and grew up there. That really WAS shit.

Bud Neill was a genius! There are books of old Lobey Dosser cartons available, and they are absolutely hilarious.
