Re: Anderston Centre

The ones at Whiteinch are notorious as "weekend lets" where the landlords rent a two bedroom flat to 43 clucking Hens or 143 drunken stags for one or two nights. The result is misery for anyone daft enough to have bought one with the intention of living in it.

Re: Hood mausoleum Cathcart cemetery

On a side (though related) issue....I came across the grave of Alexander Robertson, Shipowner and Quarrymaster yesterday. It's a remarkable thing. The whole has been modeled on the stones of Stonehenge and although the massive lintel stone has been toppled by vandals (god knows how! it must be 2 ton...

Re: Hood mausoleum Cathcart cemetery

the big trees are needing cut back for sure. You can't easily see it but deep in the branches there's a chalis shaped vase. It's a shame as it's the only proper structure in the cemetry, everything else is just headstones I think.

Re: Hood mausoleum Cathcart cemetery

Just took a walk around Cathcart Cemetery this lunchtime and chanced across the Hood memorial. A quick websearch brought me to just about the only info available on it - HG! Mighta known.

SO, just to be clear, the memorial is by Thomson or are we not sure?

Re: Average/Bad Restaurants

We ate in Black Sparrow on North Street a couple of weekends back. Not bad but not good. Mrs Cyclo had squid which was pretty good but my cous cous was very one note. Drinks are expensive and they forgot to give us the page with starters so we only had main courses. I will not be returning any time ...

Re: Walk around Hamilton

The really sensational thing about Chatelherault isn't that it was the Dukes Country Seat, it was merely his dog kennel! There was a hunting lodge attached but it would have been used for dining, probably only for lunching. The strange lump at the right hand side as you look at the lodge and the acc...

Re: Brutalist Arcitecture

You need to head out to Cumbernauld town centre to see the real thing...shuttering marks on all the concrete surfaces, the odd juxtaposition of angles to demonstrate the properties of the medium, strip windows caryying round corners and so forth. The massive forms of the college alone are worth the ...

Re: Glasgow's Cycling Heritage

Thon Scot...
The lugs would be Nervex Professional - later bikes could be Prugnat.
The tubing could be Accles and Pollack or Reynolds 531.
