Re: Glasgow or is it Glazgow... what is it to you?

GLAZ-GO

I'm GLAZ-GO born but Lanarkshire raised and don't even have a strong accent so you can't put it down to 'taxi driver' pronunciation.

Re: Glasgow Buskers

Used to be a guy that sat on his amp and played a Fender Jazzmaster (or maybe a Jaguar). If I remember he played a sort of light jazz style guitar instrumentals. Sold tapes of his music. Used to see him around a lot mostly on Buchanan street but he'd pop up other places around town. I've not seen hi...

Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Want to correct and add to some information on Postcard. Alan Horne and Paul Quinn are not "together" in the sense suggested. By all accounts, Alan is Paul's full time carer as Paul has a serious illness, M.S I'm led to believe. Until recently they lived together in Glasgow but I've heard ...

Re: Last Famous Person You Saw On The Streets Of Glasgow was

I saw Frankie Boyle and Peter Capaldi on the same day recently, although not together. Can you imagine Frankie Boyle and Malcolm Tucker getting together? 8O

Re: Subway today

Been noticing a surprising number of 'ladies' with adams apples on the underground lately.

Maybe its a friendlier mode of transport than the Drumchapel bus for members of certain minorities.

Re: Glaswegian Caryatids

But surely there are more examples in a city with so much neo-classical architecture? What you got Hidden Glasgow? Is this what you have in mind? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/onyirtodd/national_bank_pakistan_glasgow.jpg That's the one. Confusing Pakistan with India could cause problems!

Glaswegian Caryatids

I was walking down Sauchiehall Street the other day and while looking up saw a couple of caryatids on what used to be (if I remember correctly) the old Bank of India building and it occurred to me it might be a nice little project if we could get a definitive list of all the caryatids in Glasgow - e...

Re: Lost record shops of Glasgow

Shame about Lost In Music but the fact that I just learned that its no longer in business by reading this thread perhaps tells you something. I don't think it was so much internet downloading that puts shops like Lost In Music out of business, more things like e-Bay and Amazon Market place. Why trai...

Re: Glasgow’s best and worst concerts

Since Lux Interior died last night I should mention here that the best concert I've ever been to was The Cramps at the Barrowlands (where else?) in either '90 or '91. They came to the Barrowlands twice in quick succession and I've forgotten which one it was! They opened with 'Muleskinner Blues' as I...

Re: Woolies in Administration:

It was the one in Motherwell, I'd imagine they carry the same stock though.

For the record it included The Big Lebowski, Blood Simple, The Hudsucker Proxy and Barton Fink.

Re: Ice

I got chased down Hope Street last night by a homicidal tractor driver. Then I turned round a corner and there was another one coming towards me.

Turned out they were just gritting the pavements but I was worried for, oh, a few seconds.
