Re: Burst pipe

A pipe burst in a top floor flat in my close over the summer. Unfortunately the flat was empty at the time and nobody had any idea who the owners were, so police & plumbers etc had to be called to smash their way through the storm doors and flat door and get in to fix the problem, though not bef...

Re: The 4 hour threat of a fine

Isn't this all academic, since who would want to spend more than 4 hours shopping in Tesco anyway?

I'm a Tesco fanatic and even I don't find it that interesting.

Now corrected to £99.99. Did anyone get in before the change?

Re: Hiking near Glasgow?

The ascent of Ben Lomond was successful and, despite the lack of views, it was a wonderful walk. It was great to get out of the city and Loch Lomond was really beautiful today. http://krakow.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p100347272-2.jpg I'd definitely love to climb it again on a clearer day and won't be so l...

Re: Hiking near Glasgow?

So, we've decided to climb Ben Lomond tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather's half decent. It sounds like a nice walk either way though.

If I don't report back by this time tomorrow then call the mountain rescue folks.

Re: Hiking near Glasgow?

I'm not sure that the weather is going to be too clever, so we may end up doing something low-key, but I'm heading out for a walk with my sister on Tuesday, destination as yet undecided. I'll report back on where we end up and how it goes.

Re: Glasgow's Cycling Heritage

Bob Finnie only called it a day earlier this year. The shop is still there, but has been shut up for a good few months now.

Re: Glasgow's Cycling Heritage

I'd most definitely be very interested in giving your bike a good home cell. I've just sent you a PM on the subject and now cross my fingers that I'm not too late.

Re: Quick Hide The Telly!

So, it's started again. My sister lived with me last year and had a TV and a license. She's now moved out and the license has expired and not been renewed, because there's no longer a telly in the flat. Apparently I'm now officially under investigation and should expect a visit from the enforcement ...

Re: Boiler Repair/Plumber Recommendations?

Sounds good dave2, thanks. I'll certainly keep this thread in mind for when things do go awry (the pressure is holding thus far, thankfully).

Re: Google - Streetview

I saw it in Maryhill a few weeks back. Certainly an impressive camera.

Re: Boiler Repair/Plumber Recommendations?

Thanks Its_a_gamp, I'll keep him in mind. But hopefully, Josef's tip might have come to fruition. After removing a kitchen wall panel, the water pipes leading to/from the boiler were exposed, complete with a promising looking valve at what appeared to be the inlet end of the pipes. Opening this up s...

Re: Boiler Repair/Plumber Recommendations?

I'll have a closer look, but am wary of doing anything much when I don't know what I'm on about. Thanks for the tip though. I'm very much with you on the David Foster Wallace tribute, by the way - I was incredibly shocked and saddened to hear the news yesterday. It's a really terrible shame for him ...

Boiler Repair/Plumber Recommendations?

Unfortunately, my boiler has started to show signs of playing up (falling water pressure and increasingly failing to light up - my guess is that the very very low pressure in the boiler is at fault, but as far as I can see it can't be topped up straightforwardly) and I'm thinking that it would be wi...

Re: removal companies

I heartily recommend J+J Removals ( 0141 774 3474 or 07816169151). I had them recommended to me by a work colleague and used them for my big move west end -> east end just over a year ago - they were very efficient, friendly and reasonably priced. My sister then used a couple of times to move her st...
