Re: house on London road

I think it's glorious - world needs more folk like this, and I sincerely hope they don't get heavy-handed and try to cover it all up for the Games next year.

Re: Steepest Streets in Glasgow

The runaway lorry was the next one along, Garnet St - I always had a notion it was steeper, but the signs at the bottom say it's a 17% incline, compared to 20% for Scott St.

Re: One for the railway heads

Result!

After prodding them twice over the lack of response to my query, I eventually got told that the half-price off-peak returns for members of the Advance loyalty scheme would be extended to the end of May. Sort-of result, I guess!

Re: Negative scanners

Anyone got up-to-date recommendations for a film/slide scanner? I've got an older Epson flatbed scanner with film scanning capability but not too impressed with the results, suspect dedicated device is the way to go.

Re: One for the railway heads

More of a continuous, low-pitched vibration, for about 10-15 mins. I hope they do it right when the franchise and rolling stock are up for renewal - it does probably need fairly hefty subsidy to run, but it's such a civilised notion in today's rush-rush world! Having said that, there was no lounge o...

Re: One for the railway heads

Most noise from the squeaks and rattles of the coaches, worse on the way back as I was near the end of a carriage - some nasty vibration through the bogies (oo-er!) for a spell too. Rough, lengthy stretch of rail? Overheating axle boxes? Who knows? Had a throbbing sair heid on the way back, otherwis...

Re: One for the railway heads

Ever get any joy from Scotrail over your Sleeper business, M?

My trip was last week. Glad I tried it but regret to report I didn't sleep a wink either way!

Re: One for the railway heads

More OHLE trouble on the WCML today: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/sac375aeb8d344d69453db2499c46e63/details.html Did anyone see the last episode of The Railway last week, which also featured a similar problem, that time in between Carstairs and Lockerbie? Think that might have be...

Re: One for the railway heads

The very one, aye - waited five minutes on the bloke at the ticket office trying to find out about it the other day, had to give up or I would have missed the train! I don't blame them, really, it's probably lost in an anonymous bunch of paperwork they get sent about various deals and offers all the...
