Re: Glasgow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

What about Belle and Sebastian- last of the West End bohemians? Their early videos were filmed in the lanes of Dowanhill and Kelvinbridge. Also a whole range of musicians who performed in Stereo when it was in Kelvinhaugh Street- including a very early Pete Doherty solo gig, and countless Foxface/Id...

First seem to have improved their services Other than on the 62 I got home - someone had puked up the back and they continued to run the bus back to the garage rather than taking it off immediately. Yuck. I use the 62 a fair bit and would be peeved if all the passengers had to get off just because ...

It is insane, trying to suggest that Knightswood Shopping Centre should be turned into a big Tesco. Tesco sucks money out of the area around it. I'd hate to see Alderman Road or Dumbarton Road (Yoker) in five years time if there was a big supermarket in Knightswood. Tesco takes money out of towns, i...

The planners have made the same mistake, yet again, that they first made in the 1950s: flat roofs, building materials with a short lifespan, and loud colours which clash with their surroundings. As you say, artists' impressions are hopelessly optimistic re- the weather, local environment and cleanli...

It would be a disgrace for the city if a car park was built in this part of Victoria Park. Victoria Park is already too small as a result of the Expressway being built along its southern edge in the 1960s. The blaes pitches are located in one of the few areas in the park where you can't hear the roa...

Indeed they were. The sign should have read 'MOSES WAS A BASKET CASE'.

Sorry, the 'Bible' and 'Humber' sections of my memory fail me entirely at times.

The funny thing is that a lot of it DID happen. Many of the blue lines on the map (except for Great Western Road) show where a motorway now is. Many of the red lines on the map indicate where an expressway now is (Clydeside, Springburn, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld). The difference is that the planner...

'DON'T GIVE UP, CHRIST WAS A BASKET CASE'

That was an uplifting, rather than guilt-inducing, sign outside a church in Hull a couple of years ago.

Songs from Glasgow and Hull

Just to notify anyone who may be interested that I'm a singer trying to flog my Hull-themed demo album, 'My Heart's In The Humber', cheaply via Oxfam record shop on Byres Road. It's got 20 songs (12 good, 8 pish tacked on as a bonus). I'm from Glasgow but studied at Hull university and found it to b...

You could also change all the Hill places, e.g. Broomhill, Scotstounhill, to "Broomhuw, Scotstounhuw, Jordanhuw" etc. Most people seem to pronounce it that way.

I think that the hatred of neds is a wee bit snobby. I've witnessed wealthy students committing acts of mindless violence, drinking too much, shouting in the streets at all hours of the night, and talking loosely on public transport. The worst ones often live off the taxpayer and their mums and thei...

As a slightly younger man, I was inebriated, and was waiting on the middle platform of Kelvinbridge Underground station for a train. Being tired, and with nowhere to sit down, I sat and dangled my legs over the edge of the platform, whilst waiting for a train to arrive. After a couple of minutes, an...

Definition of the word "ned"

What is a ned?

I think if the word has to be used, then it's someone acting obnoxiously, whether they be poor/rich, young/old.

But the word is often just used to refer to people who wear sportswear, or schoolkids in general, and I disagree with that 'cos it's a prejudice.
